Title: The X-Files: Shadows of the Empire Summary: episode five Note: Just to let you know, the remark about "moving to America and converting to a Mormon" came from a conversation I had with a friend a while back, just after Princess Diana's death. We're both Mormon. There's a lot of talk about that event in here, but it DOES have to do with the story. Just to let you know, I'm not the perfect LDS person, and I don't want any bad light to be shed on my fellow Church members. This is just the way I am. Yavin 4 Dantana Skywalker stepped off the last stone stair onto the roof of the Great Temple. All week, she'd been reading about the origins of these temples. They'd been built by the Massassi four thousand years before, as tribute to their Sith lord, Exar Kun. Kun had come to Yavin to start a praxeum for the Sith. His plans had gone awry when nearly every Light Jedi in the galaxy had come to Yavin to destroy him. Kun had seemingly killed himself and the Massassi people, starting a fire that took the jungle planet over two years to recover from. But Kun hadn't died; he didn't die until yeras after imprisonment deep inside the temple, supported by his anger at the Jedi. Now, the temples had been converted into Luke Skywalker's Jedi Academy. It was funny, really, how a place that had once been so devoted to the Sith ways was now used to teach against the Sith. Dana's husband was headmaster, galaxy-renowned Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. Master Skywalker had himself trained Dana five years before. Already standing on the roof was a young Jedi Knight, trained by a former student of Luke's. He turned as she approached. "Mistress Skywalker." Dana barely kept herself from grimacing. "Please, call me Dana. I hate 'Mistress Skywalker' almost as much as Luke hates to be called 'Master'." She smiled up at him. "So, what do you think of Yavin?" William Arthur Windsor sighed. "I'm so used to the cooler temperatures of England. This is almost too hot for me." Dana nodded. "I know. I grew up partially in Ireland. But I've forced myself to put up with it." Wills smiled. "My mother would have done the same." "She was a great woman," Dana said. "She would have been a great Jedi, if only she'd been allowed to continue her training." "When she died, I felt partially responsible," Wills said. "I felt obligated to finish my own training and carry out her wishes." Dana looked up at the gas planet hovering in the sky. "We all feel a little responsible for her death." Three months ago, Wills had come from Earth with the New Republic after saving Earth from hostile invaders. Along with him, Dana's family, her mother, brothers, and neices and nephews had all come. Dana's ex-husband, Fox Mulder, and his small family, including his sister, Samantha, had come with. Samantha Mulder and Michelle Brimhall-Mulder had begun Jedi training shortly after arrival. Wills suddenly grinned. "I still remember the look on Grandmother's face when I told her I was a Jedi. She was nearly apopleptic. Though I think she would have taken it a bit harder if I'd told her that I was moving to America and converting to a Mormon." Dana smiled and nodded. "I'd imagine so." "So how long have you and Master Skywalker been married?" Dana thought for a moment. "I guess it's been almost a year. Later this month, it will be." There was a commotion down at the landing pad outside the hangar. Dana looked at Wills and they both saved time by levitating down to the ground. Dana was met by Luke halfway to the platform. She smiled at him and asked, "What's going on?" Luke slipped his arm around her waist. "Jacen and Tenel Ka just got back from Hapes Prime. Her parents gave them permission to get married." "That's great!" Dana looked for her nephew, who was putting up with being pounded on the back by his little brother, Anakin. "Have they set a date?" Luke shook his head. "He has to tell Han and Leia first. They approved before they went to Hapes, but now they have to make a formal announcement." Dana pulled away from Luke and was moving to go congratulate them when she gave a small cry and fell to her knees. Her loose robes "puddled" around her. Luke dropped down beside her. "What is it?" "The baby, you idiot! I'm in labor!" Luke and Wills helped her to her feet and into the infirmary inside the Great Temple. They were met by Cilghal, the Mon Calamari healer. Wills retreated into the other room. "The child?" Cilghal asked. Luke nodded. Moments after Dana was brought in, Fox came in, carrying his Jedi wife. Cilghal swiveled her eyes and made a noise close to a sigh. "Come, put her on the table." Michelle turned her head and looked at Dana. "talk about timing." "Tell me about it," Dana muttered. Luke and Fox looked at each other. Fox said, "Labour, round 2." Eight and a half hours later, Dana lay on the bed, craddling Brennan Gylian Skywalker. On the other bed, Michelle made a noise akin to a scream and Cilghal said, "It's a girl." Fox sighed. Luke laughed. "What are you laughing about?" Fox asked, turning hazel eyes to the Jedi Master. Luke shook his head. "I was just thinking about when Dana had the twins." "Oh, that's something to laugh about!" Fox said. "It didn't take as long as this!" Dana raised an eyebrow at the two of them. "If you're going to bicker, go somewhere else!" Cilghal laughed. "Dana's right. The mothers need to rest." "Thrown out of the delivery room again," Fox said, and they left. Jacen and Tenel Ka were married in a large ceremony in the Great Temple two months later. The bride's parents, Prince Consort Isolder and Queen Teneniel D'jo, attended, and spent most of the reception remeniscing with Han, Leia, and Luke. Dana spent the greater part of the evening with the "Earthlings," or as they were known in the New Republic, Terrans, feeling depressed and left out. After the reception, the newlyweds rushed off to their prepared retreat on Dathomir, and life resumed its relatively normal pace. One day, Jaina came skipping in and sat down abruptly next to Dana on the bed, where Dana was nursing Brennan. She was smiling broadly. "Aunt Dana, can I ask you some questions? I know you were a doctor on Earth, and my mother would freak if I asked her," Jaina said. Dana laughed. "You sound like an Earth teenager. Ask me anything you want." Jaina blushed. "Well, um, Zekk asked me to marry him, and we're going to tell Mom and Dad, but I want to know, what is it like?" Dana looked down at Brennan, trying not to laugh too hard. "Um, Jaina, that's kind of hard to explain. Um . . . " "Mom gave me the basic lesson, you know, about all the parts, and all that, but-" "All I can say, Jaina, is that it'll hurt at first, but it'll be worth it. You'll have to ask your mother about the rest, or you can ask Tenel Ka." Jaina made a face. "Tenel Ka? But she's married *Jacen*! I don't want to learn about . . . what they do!" The door slid open and Luke walked in to find Dana laughing so hard that tears were running down her face, and Jaina sitting next to her, red-faced. Luke looked between them, said, "I don't even want to know," and walked out. Fox watched as Dana sat with his sister and his wife on a grassy hill. They were utterly silent, and he felt like he was trespassing. It disturbed him to know that both times he'd wed, it had been to a Force-sensitive. He now knew that aliens really did exist, and everyone on Earth knew it, too. there would be no covering that up. Now what he wanted was to know what it was like to be able to reach out and *feel* through the Force. But he was blind to it, like Han. He and the ex-smuggler had a lot in common, but they didn't spend much time together, other than when Han was teaching him to fly a ship. Samantha looked up. "Dana, there's a ship approaching." Dana and Michelle opened their eyes. Now they could hear it, coming down to the Academy. Quickly, they all got up and ran back to the Academy, arriving just after the ship landed. Dana went to Luke, who had a look of utter dread on his face. "What?" The ramp of the beat-up ship lowered and a tall woman, with long, light brown hair and gray eyes, came out. She was dressed completely in black, and might have been pretty if she hadn't had a perpetual scowl on her face. She looked over her shoulder. "D'nia!" A young girl, maybe two or three years younger than Jaina and Jacen, came running out. She had long hair the same color as the woman's, and pure silver eyes. Luke muttered a swear word he'd picked up on Earth and Dana looked at him, surprised. His hand went to his lightsaber. "Who is she, Luke?" "An old . . . friend." Dana saw the look on his face and knew that this woman hadn't been just a friend. She was an old lover, and Luke had loved her very much. The woman looked around, then her eyes stopped on Luke. She smiled, and Dana could see that she was once very beautiful. But anger had taken that from her. "Luke. It's been a long time." Luke swallowed. "Callista." Callista walked over, followed by the girl. She looked almost contemptuously at Dana. "Who is she?" "Callista, I'd like you to meet Dantana Skywalker, my wife." "Ah." Callista nodded. She turned and motioned D'nia forward. "Luke, I'd like you to meet D'niallana Skywalker. Our daughter." Luke felt weak. Dana put a supportive hand on his arm. Callista smiled coldly. "I'm leaving her with you. I want you to train her to be a Jedi, like I once was." "Mother, don't leave-" Callista turned to her daughter. "D'nia, I want you to stay with your father and stepmother. I can't train you to be a proper Jedi. I have too much anger. It's the only way I can use the Force. You're very powerful, and I want the best for you." Dana looked at the young girl and saw both her parents in her. She was suddenly very angry at Luke for not telling her about Callista. Before anyone could say anything more, Callista was running back to her ship and was gone. Everyone was left looking at Luke and his daughter. end Continues with The X-Files: Masters of the Force
