Title: The X-Files: Child of a Jedi Summary: episode two Okay, I know the title might not go completely with the story, but it's all I could think of at the moment. I'd suggest that you read these stories in order, which so far is "An New Hope," "Child of a Jedi," and "Return of the Jedi." It won't make much sense otherwise. Washington, D.C. "I'm so happy for you!" a woman said, clutching Dana Scully's hand. They were at her wedding reception. Dana had no idea who the woman was. "Thank you," Dana said, pulling her hand away. "I'd better go find my husband." Dana slipped off into the crowded room, in search of not her husband, but her mother. She found her talking to her husband, Fox Mulder. "Mom. Fox." Fox Mulder looked at his wife. She looked depressed. It wasn't surprising. She'd lost the man she loved just two months before. "Hey. How's it going?" "Everyone's saying how happy they are for me, and they wish us luck." Dana twisted her wedding ring around on her finger. "I can't stand it!" Margaret Scully looked between her daughter and her son-in-law. She knew all about the circumstances leading to this marriage, and she wanted her daughter to be happy. That didn't look like it would happen any time soon. Fox took Dana's hand. "Look, I know things aren't going to be easy for us, but at least pretend for tonight, okay?" Dana nodded and walked away. Fox looked after her, thinking about his stepdaughter, who was one of the cutest babies he'd ever seen. Too bad that Leia Katrael Skywalker favoured her father's coloring. A song started playing and the DJ at the CD player said, "This song is for the bride and groom, first dance goes to them!" Feels like I'm standing in a timeless dream Dana looked up, shocked, from her conversation with her cousin, Pamela. She felt tears dangerously close. Those days of warm rains come rushing back to me Secret moments shared in the heat of the afternoon Dana stood frozen, unable to move. Pam stared at her curiously. Say, say it again I love you always forever You've got the most unbelievable blue eyes She burst into tears and ran from the room, everyone turning to look. Fox stared at the wall, an empty champagne glass in his hands. Only he and his mother-in-law knew why Dana had run. October 1999 "Hello?" Dana picked up the phone as she sat down at her husband's desk. "Dana, it's George." "George? What's happened?" George Lucas laughed. "Nothing's happened, don't sound so worried. Actually, I was calling to see how you and Leia were doing." "We're fine. What are you not telling me?" "Well . . . " There was a pause. "I was wondering if you'd like to come out to the ranch and help write Episode IX. Mark and Carrie'll be on staff." Dana closed her eyes. "George, you know that the last time I was out there, it was when-" "Luke left? Yeah, I know." She was silent for a long, long moment, trying to hold back memories. "Dana?" "Okay, I'll do it. But I have to bring Leia. And I was just given a case, but I'll be out there next week." George sighed in relief. "You don't carry a gun anymore, do you?" "No. I don't need one. The Force is my ally." "And a powerful ally it is," George said solemnly. "So is a lightsaber. I'll see you in a week?" "Right. I've got to go, George. May the Force be with you." "You know, I'm beginning to think that's a curse." "You and me both, George. 'Bye." "Yeah. Same to you." Skywalker Ranch "Okay, people, let's get started by introducing ourselves. It doesn't help to not know each other. I can just see someone shouting across the room, 'Hey, you, old guy in the denim!'" Everyone laughed. "Mark, we'll start with you." George looked at Dana, who was bouncing 11-month-old Leia on her knees, her eyes fixed on a metal door at the back of the room. It must be painful for her to be here. Dana couldn't draw here eyes away from the door, even when George cleared his throat. "Earth to Dana. Come in, Dana." Dana's head whipped around and she fixed her eyes on George. "Huh?" Smiling, George said, "It's your turn." Seeing her near-panicked look, he said, "Just tell them the truth. It'll come out sooner or later." Dana sighed. Now that George had said something, she had to tell them. Very slowly, she stood up. "Well, I'm Dana Scully, and I work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. "I know you're all probably wondering why George would ask me to help, and I wasn't going to tell you, but now that George has, in a sense, dragged me out into the snow . . . " Taking a deep breath, she said, "Nearly two years ago, in January, 1998, I received a box from my cousin in Ireland. This box changed my life. "In this box was a holographic message, very similar to the 'Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope' speech. Also in the box was this." She held up her lightsaber and turned it on. The brilliant green blade sprang to life. "A few moments after listening to the recording, a man came into my office, which I still share with my husband of nearly a year. He was dressed in a cloak and dark clothing. "He told me that he was a Jedi Master, and had come to train me in the ways of the Jedi. We began my training that day. "A little over a month later, I came to realize that I'd fallen in love with my teacher, and he with me. "We hid out affair from everyone but my mother. I became pregnant, and my master and I battled the man, a certain film producer-" she looked at George "-Who'd held him captive from December, 1973, to May, 1983. We won. "On November 1st, I gave birth to Leia Katrael and William Anakin. Three weeks later, my teacher left, taking my son with him. On the 27th, it will have been a year." Dana extinguished the lightsaber and looked at it, cold metal and unusual mechanics, constructed by the one man she'd ever truly loved. "So who is this Jedi Master?" Carrie Fisher asked. Dana wasn't the one who answered. It was George. "His name was Luke Skywalker." "This isn't working, guys," Mark said, tossing down his pen. Carrie stood and stretched. "I'd forgotten what a task-master George is." Dana looked down at the papers in front of her, on which she'd been outlining an idea. "Why don't you take a look at this?" Carrie came over and picked up the stack. After reading through it, she said, "Wow. I like it." The other writers read through it, and all liked it. Dana smiled sheepishly. She written the characters as she knew them. Three weeks later, they had a story that met with George's approval, and casting began. Dana returned to Washington on the eve of her first anniversary. Fox was out of town on a missing persons case, but hoped to be back in a few days. that night, the dreams started. They weren't about Luke leaving her, but Luke returning. In early February, a package arrived from George. Dana ripped the box open and scanned the note, which read, "Dana- This came through the portal while I was running the routines. It's from Luke, and he said it was for you." Dana withdrew a small message crystal and clutched it in her hands. Then she got up to play it in the small box Luke had given her. She set it up on the kitchen table and sat back, hungrily taking in the face that appeared before her. "Dantana, my love," the holographic image of Luke Skywalker said. "I'm sorry to have to have left you, and I know it's been so long. I wish I could see your face, even in a picture. Well, I have a picture, but that tiny locket doesn't do you justice. "I wish I could be there with you, but I can't. I'm lucky enough to get this to you. I would love to see our daughter, but I know I can't right now. You don't have the technology to make a message crystal, and we don't have VCRs. "Our son is safe, Dantana, with Winter, who took care of Jaina, Jacen, and Anakin. I'm sure that Leia is equally safe. "I love you, Dana. Never forget that. I'll send you another message soon, though I'd rather come in person." The image smiled. "I love you." After the recording stopped, Dana slowly closed the box and, putting her head on her arms, began to sob. May, 2001 "Mike, I know you can do this," Dana chided. Mike Scully nodded. He knew not to say that he'd try. The last time he had, she'd said, "No! Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try." The boy lifted the meter-long, inch-thick dowel, but then his arms sagged and he dropped it, collapsing onto the couch. "I can't do it any more, Aunt Dana! I've been working *three* hours!" Dana blinked once, then looked at her watch. Yes, it had been three hours. "Okay, recite the Jedi code, then you can stop for the day." Mike rolled his eyes. Taking a breath, he rushed out with, "There is not emotion, there is peace. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. There is no passion, there is serenity. There is no death, there is the Force." Dana sighed and nodded. "Okay, go on." As Mike walked into the kitchen to get something to eat, the phone rang. Dana held out her hand and the cordless receiver sprang into it. "Hello?" "Um, hi. This is Michelle Brimhall. Is Fox there?" Dana raised an eyebrow. "No, he's out for the moment. May I take a message?" "Just tell him that 'Chelle called, and he missed out date on Friday." "I will." Dana hung up without saying good-bye and stared at the phone in her hand. "So my husband has a girlfriend." end Continues with
