Title: Little One OK, here goes: Little one, by Mizander. They look so strong, so secure, so safe. They seem to be happy, and they don't seem exactly poor. Little one, I have found them. Now all I have to do is get hold of their names and addresses via the boys, write out the papers, and put you on their doorstep. That'll hurt, little one, but I can't do this. I want you to have the best in life, not some hole full of rats to call home. The boys offered to keep us, but I can't do that either. I need to get away, to a place where every second hotel doesn't remind me of another fumbling stranger with a stuffed wallet and leering eyes. One of those guys is your biological father, little one, but it's the man opposite I want to be your Dad. And I'm only your biological mother. The person you'll call Mom is sitting right next to Dad. At least I hope so. "She's been hanging round infertility clinics again." "Jeez Sarah. When will you learn?" "Guys, it's OK. I went to see her, and on the way out, I spotted the ideal couple. Straight out of a catalog, those two." "Sarah, you've already spotted the ideal couple five times, and you've always been upset afterwards. Who says this won't be the same?" "Look, just check them out for me. Please?" "All right, all right. Have you got the picture?" "Here." I hand them the pencil sketch I made. Their computer will match it with photos from every human database in the world, and the boys will narrow it down until we get the right ones. Well, that's what usually happens. This time, Frohike doesn't seem in any kind of hurry to put the picture in the scanner. In fact, he, Langly and Byers are sort of staring at the picture open-mouthed. "Guys?" Byers opens his mouth, and then shuts it again. Frohike looks from the picture to me, then at his friends, and back to the picture. He snorts, and the other two burst out laughing. "Sarah, is this...is it...did you..." "When you drew this, was that...what they were doing?" "Uh...yeah...he kissed her after, so I had to wait ages to get a clear picture of her face." More laughter. "It's very good...the resemblance is striking...." "You know these guys?" "Yeah...we do." "You know the perfect couple and you didn't tell me?" "Ah...um...we didn't exactly know that they were a couple, you see....always thought they should pair up, of course...except Frohike....quite besotted with agent Scully...." Byers can't get his words out straight, he's laughing so much. I don't see what's so funny. They've told me about Mulder and Scully, and I think they deserve each other. And they definitely deserve you, little one. "So, what do you think? Would they be good parents?" Dead silence. Oops. Little one, I think something's wrong. Maybe I'll have to find someone else. Eventually, Langly speaks. "Yes Sarah, I think they'd make the best parents any child could wish for." His voice is hushed, like someone speaking in church. He glances at Frohike and Byers, and they nod their approval. "Mulder- They arrived at ten, little one, looking very worried. Byers nodded at the others, and led them into that room at the back where I've never been. After a while, he called me in to join them. We've sorted it out, little one, so this is goodbye. When you get well, you'll be going home to Mom and Dad. You'll be very happy with them, little one. They already love you very much. So do I, little one, so do I. Fini!!!
