Title: Untitled Summary: He's back. He's back. I don't think Agent Scully quite believed me when I told her he was in a Virginia hospital just an hour from D.C. I don't think she'll believe it's over until she sees him with her own eyes. I escort her down the quiet hospital corridor until we reach room 193. I've made this trip once already today, just to make sure the man registered as M. Luder was really Mulder. The Gunmen had told me to keep a heads up for that alias, I guess it's a pen name Mulder used a few years back. The door to Mulder's room is closed, and Scully knocks gently. "No one in here but the FBI's most unwanted." At the sound of the gravely voice coming through the door, Scully's breath catches audibly. She sways a bit, I put my hand on her shoulder to steady her. Placing her own hand over mine, she looks up at me as her eyes well with tears. "Thank you, sir." With that she pushes open the door. I watch from the doorway as she walks up to him silently. No loud noisy sobs, no running wildly into each other's arms. What I witness seems all the more moving for it's quiet. She leans down, grasping one of his hands in hers. Her other hand reaches out and softly caresses the side of his face. They stare at each other for endless minutes, tears streaming down their cheeks. They speak no words - none seem to be needed. Finally, she closes her eyes and presses her face next to his on the pillow. Their arms go around each other and grab on tight. Feeling like a voyeur, I turn, closing the door quietly behind me. Collapsing in a chair in the waiting room, I take off my glasses and rub my tired eyes. His returning won't go unnoticed for long. I heard through a few channels that he wasn't supposed to return at all. I'd better rest while I can. I have a feeling things are going to hit the fan soon.
