Dana Scully's apartment
11:21 PM

Dana Scully rolled over in bed; she was at that half-way point between waking and sleeping when a shimmering light caught her eye. She sat up in bed, startled, as she realized there was a man standing in her bedroom!

"Hello, Dana," said a deep, vaguely familiar, baritone voice.

She reached for her pistol by the bed.

"There's no need for violence, Dana. I am not here to harm you."

"Spock?!" she inquired with disbelief.

"Yes. I am Spock."

"No you're not. I'm dreaming."

"On the contrary, Agent Scully, you are wide awake."

She rubbed her hands over her face. "You're Mr. Spock from the Starship, Enterprise, and you are standing in my bedroom. Mulder is gonna love this dream!"

"I haven't served on the Enterprise in a number of years. I agree, Fox Mulder will find this most interesting."

Dana Scully turned on the lamp at her bedside. "You're real! I'm not dreaming. I turned on the light and you are still here."

"Yes."

"Oh, my God!"

Spock raised an eyebrow. "You are Catholic."

The petite redhead began to get nervous. "Why are you here?"

" I am here to offer you an arrangement."

"What kind of arrangement?"

"I would like to bring you back to the 24th Century with me to have my child."

"Your child!!! You want me to have your child?!"

"Yes."

"I can't have children."

"You could if you came with me. Our obstetrical technology is far superior to yours. You would not even have to gestate the fetus in your womb."

"Why me?"

"I find you...fascinating. Your thesis on Einstein's Twin Paradox was very insightful for someone so young in the 1980's. You have a brilliant mind; quite logical. Almost Vulcan. You control your emotions very well for a Human. I find you very attractive. You remind me of my mother; you have her eyes."

"Wouldn't taking me with you interfere with your prime directive? You're not supposed to just pick people out of the past and take them to 24th Century, you would mess up the Space Time Continuum."

"Not in your case."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"You will be murdered by the Consortium. Your death will be meaningless. I offer you life in a world where your intelligence will be appreciated, where you can make meaningful contributions to the Universe."

"I die? When do I die?"

"Two days from now."

"Mulder. What about Mulder?"

"He dies too. You will both be executed by Alex Krycek in Fox Mulder's apartment."

Dana Scully sat in silence, thinking. "Okay. I'll go. But only if I can take Mulder too."

Spock folded his hands and placed his index fingers to his lips, pondering her request. "Perhaps, I have underestimated the control you have over your emotions. I am aware that you are in love with Agent Mulder, but, I did not expect you to want to take him with you. Your proposal complicates matters."

"How so?"

"The X-Files are closed after his death. They may remain open if he merely 'disappears'."

"But it doesn't matter if I 'disappear'?"

"You have 'disappeared' before. Your disappearance only served to fuel Fox Mulder's interest in proving the existence of extra-terrestrial life forms."

"Are you saying my disappearance only impacts Mulder? What about my family?"

"They accept your loss just as they did Melissa's."

"That can't be!"

"You come from a strong military family. They understand that loosing a family member in government service is a natural risk. They do accept your loss quite well."

Tears slipped silently down Dana Scully's cheeks. "I won't go without Mulder," she said as her chin quivered.

The Vulcan sighed. "Very well. We will take him."

Mulder's apartment
11:45 PM

Dana Scully and her new companion, Mr. Spock, materialized in Fox Mulder's living room. The TV was airing a "Twilight Zone" marathon. Dana approached the sleeping figure on the couch. "Mulder," she called as she gently shook him awake.

"Scully?"

"Yea, it's me, Mulder."

He sat up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "What's wrong, Scully? Why are you here?"

"We need to talk."

His eyes opened wide as he glimpsed the tall figure standing next to his partner. "Oh, Scully, I'm dreaming about Star Trek and you're in it," he said with a bleary smile.

"No. You are not dreaming," the Vulcan said.

"Scully, have I been drugged? Is that why you're here - to take care of me?"

"No, Mulder, you haven't been drugged. And you're not dreaming either. I am here with Mr. Spock."

"WOW! No shit? Spock's for real?"

"Yes. I am real."

"Mr. Spock wants to take us home with him."

"Really? Is Samantha with you?" he asked excitedly.

"No. Your sister is not with me. She died shortly after her abduction," Spock reported in a monotone voice.

"She's dead? Samantha is dead? Are you sure?" Mulder asked rising to his feet.

"She is dead. I am sorry. She died in a genetic cross breeding experiment."

Mulder wandered around his living room in a daze, shaking his head. "Samantha can't be dead. How can you be sure? How do you know?" he asked, tears stinging his eyes.

"I am from the 24th Century. Samantha's fate is recorded in history," Spock responded gently.

Mulder sank back down onto the couch. "So, why do you want me to go to the 24th Century with you?"

"I don't."

"Then why are you here?"

"Agent Scully will not come with me unless you come along."

Mulder looked confused.

"Look, Mulder, we are going to die in two days anyway. Krycek is going to kill us. We might as well take Mr. Spock up on his offer."

"I suppose our deaths are recorded in history?"

"Yes, indeed," Spock responded.

"And, you don't want me, but Scully does."

"That's right."

"You came here to get Scully?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"I want to have a child with her."

"A child! You want her to have your child? Why does everyone treat her like some damned brood mare?"

"Mulder!" Scully exclaimed in surprise.

Spock looked intrigued. "Dana is special, very intelligent, a highly evolved human specimen. Your 'friends' in the Consortium recognized that. That is why they took her ovum."

"You can't have her!" Mulder shouted as he rose to his feet again.

"Mulder! I am not your property!"

The man's face turned red. "How can you even consider sleeping with him, Scully?"

The Vulcan stepped closer to him. "Agent Scully will not have to have intercourse with me if that is your concern. She will not even have to carry the child; it can be gestated in an Invetro Chamber. She will not be harmed in anyway."

Anger still burned on Mulder's face. "Then why do you need her? Why don't you just take a sample of her genetic material?"

"I want to save her life. She has a brilliant mind. I don't want her to die a meaningless death."

"You want to marry her?"

" I will have to in order to assure the child's Vulcan birth right."

"You never said anything about marriage!" Scully interjected.

"It is a mere formality. I told you, you will not have to have sexual relations with me. I will stand by my word."

"What about Mulder?"

"I am willing to accept his presence as your companion."

"Companion?" Mulder inquired.

"You will be welcome to live in my home with Dana. You can help her raise the child."

"Wait a minute!" Scully interrupted. "Who says I want Mulder as a companion to raise my child?"

"No one. However, it is your unspoken desire," Spock responded.

Dana Scully's cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Mulder looked at her with fascination. "I will stay with you and help you raise the baby, if you want me to Scully."

She looked lovingly into his eyes. "I want you to, Mulder."

"That settles it. We will go now," said Spock.

The USS Blackwell
12:00 AM

The Vulcan and his two human companions arrived in the transporter room in a flurry of shimmering light. Dana Scully and Fox Mulder looked around in awe, still gripping their suitcases tightly. "Wow..," Mulder breathed.

Mr. Spock stepped off the transporter dais, walking over to a red-haired woman dressed in blue. "Captain Crusher, may I present Dr. Dana Scully and Fox Mulder."

Beverly Crusher smiled warmly. "Welcome aboard, Dana, Fox."

"Mulder. Everyone calls me Mulder."

"Of course, welcome, Mulder."

He came forward, released his suitcases and pumped her hand. Dana followed suit. "Thank you for having us," she said.

The captain motioned to a young man in a golden shirt, "Lieutenant Alton will show you to your quarters. Dr. Scully, I expect to see you in the lab in 20 minutes."

"How will I get there?" she inquired anxiously.

"Just hit the touch pad in your room and say 'Genetics Lab' and a map will light up on the pad."

"Thank...you," she said as she followed Mulder and the lieutenant.

Genetics Lab
12:25 AM

Dana Scully arrived in the lab with her partner close at her heels. She was greeted by Dr. Crusher and a Vulcan woman. "Dana Scully, this is Dr. Car-on, she will be your biogenetic engineer."

"You mean I am going to be impregnated on the ship?" she asked.

"This is a medical research vessel. The USS Blackwell is well-equipped to perform all of the necessary procedures to initiate a life form," Dr. Crusher responded, smiling proudly.

The Vulcan woman raised an eyebrow. "You wish to become pregnant?"

Scully blushed, embarrassed. "Ah...no...I guess not, if it isn't necessary."

"It is not necessary," Dr. Car-on responded clinically.

"Good," said Mulder, grinning.

"So, when do we start?" Scully asked anxiously.

"We begin now," said Dr. Car-on. "Open your mouth," she commanded as she placed a silver pen-like object along the interior of Dana's cheek. She withdrew the instrument and placed it's tip inside six different vials of fluid. "That is all," she announced, taking the vials to another room in the lab.

"That's it? You took a scraping of my epithelial cells and that's all you need to make a baby?" she asked in dismay.

"That's all, Dana," Dr. Crusher answered with a smile.

"Incredible!" Scully exclaimed.

"So, now what?" Mulder asked.

"Dr. Car-on will choose the most viable combination of genetic traits between Dana and Ambassador Spock to make a zygote," Dr. Crusher responded.

"And the fetus will be grown in an Invetro Chamber?" Scully inquired.

"Yes."

"Could I see one?"

"I'm sorry. I don't have any containing a fetus at the moment, but I could show you an empty one," the doctor offered.

"That would be fine," Scully smiled.

The two partners followed her into a warm room, emitting a soft green light. They observed a series of clear glass-like tubes along one wall.

"Your fetus will be grown to the blastula state in a petry dish and will then be transferred into an Invetro Chamber."

"How does the baby receive nourishment?"

"The walls of the chamber will be coated with a gelatinous substance that will provide all its nutrients. The tube will be filled with a synthetic amniotic fluid that will be continuously filtered for impurities in this machine over here."

"Fascinating," said Mulder.

"So, when will the baby be born?" Scully asked.

"In six months. That is the normal gestation time for a Vulcan."

"But my baby is not all Vulcan. It will be 3/4 Human."

"You are right, of course, but the Vulcan traits will be dominant. Your baby will be ready to come out of the Chamber in six months."

"What do I do in the meantime?"

"You are a doctor, a forensic pathologist. This is a medical research facility. I presumed you would want to further your training in medicine."

"Oh...I guess you're right. I probably should."

"Good. We will begin your training in the morning. Say around O-900? You should really go back to your quarters now and get some sleep."

"O-900 will be fine," Scully said as she headed for the door.

"Hey, what about me?" asked Mulder.

"To be perfectly honest, Mr. Mulder, we were not expecting you. I am not sure what you will be suited for. Perhaps, I can arrange for a battery of vocational testing for you tomorrow."

"I'm a trained Psychologist," he offered.

"Are you an empath?"

"No."

"Most of our Counselors are Betazoids, or other species with empathic abilities."

Mulder's face fell. "Oh. I guess I'll just have to see what those tests show, huh?"

"That would be best, Mr. Mulder. Good night."

"Good night, Doctor."

Dana Scully's room
2:00 AM

Mulder touched the door panel and entered Scully's room. "Scully?

Scully? You awake?"

"I am now, Mulder. What's up?"

"I am. I can't sleep. I can't help but feeling I would be better off dead in our own time than here as a fifth wheel in the 24th Century."

"Oh, Mulder, don't say that. I need you. I don't know what I would do in a world without you in it."

"You mean that, Scully?"

"Of course, I do. Come here," she said as she pulled back the covers.

Mulder slipped into bed with her and fell asleep in her embrace.

Dana Scully's room
8:00 AM

Mr. Spock knocked at Dana's door.

"Who is it?"

"Spock."

"Come in," she said sitting up in bed. Mulder lay sleeping by her side.

Spock entered and stared at the sleeping man. "Dana, I did not realize you were intimately involved with Mr. Mulder."

"I'm not."

"Then why is he in your bed?"

"He couldn't sleep. He was feeling lonely and depressed."

"I see." Spock began pacing the room, thinking silently.

"Is there a problem?" she inquired.

"You are my fiancee. You have another man in your bed. This is most unconventional."

She got out of bed and approached the Vulcan. "Look, Spock, you said our marriage was to be a 'mere formality to ensure your child's Vulcan birthright', remember?"

"Yes, I did say that."

"So what's the problem?"

"Infidelity is frowned upon in my culture."

"I am not having an affair with him!" she responded, raising her voice.

"What?!!! Scully! What's going on?" Mulder woke with a start.

"Good morning, Mr. Mulder. Dana and I were just discussing your appearance in her bed."

"Oh, it's not what you think. Really. I didn't touch her!"

"It wouldn't matter if you did! I am not his property!"

"Oh, but Scully, you are!"

"Mulder!"

"It's true, Scully. Vulcans have full ownership of their wives."

"That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of! This is the 24th Century for Christ's sake!"

"I see no reason to argue about this, Dana. I am shocked by your emotional outburst ; it is so unlike your profile. I do not mind if you share your bed with your former partner. I just want you to be more discrete about it while you are on this starship. I cannot afford to have my reputation sullied by scandal."

"So, how much longer am I going to be kept prisoner on this *starship* anyway?"

"Our wedding will take place in two weeks when we reach the planet Vulcan. After that, you can choose to live at my family estate on Vulcan, continue your medical training on this research vessel, or reside with me at my quarters on the Federation Satellite Endolpho."

"What about Mulder?"

"I told you that he is welcome in my home as your companion to help you raise the child. He can accompany you where ever you choose to live. All I ask is that you be more discrete concerning his presence in your bed."

"What about your presence in her bed?" Mulder bit out jealously.

"I do not expect conjugal visits. I made that clear to Dana when I gave her my offer."

"Will you be sleeping in her bed?"

"Back off, Mulder!" Scully hissed vehemently.

"I guess I'll be going. I have some aptitude tests to take," he said exiting her room.

"He's gone. Are you happy now, Mr. Spock?" she asked through clenched teeth.

"His presence neither makes me happy nor sad. However, I am concerned that your actions may harm both of our reputations in the Federation."

Dana Scully ran her hands through her short red hair. "I'm sorry. It won't happen again. You saved his life for me. I am in your debt."

"What about your life, Dana?"

"My life? My life is nothing without him."

Two weeks later on the planet Vulcan
10:00AM "Scully, you look beautiful. Magnificent," Mulder said as he entered the waiting area for the bridal party.

"Thanks, Mulder. You look beautiful too," she said as she took his face in her gloved hands.

He looked down at his feet, unable to look her in the eyes. "You sure you want me to give you away?"

"You're the closest thing to family I have, Mulder."

"I know. It's just ...it's just that...that ...I thought someday...it might be me."

"Mulder, what are you saying?"

He closed his eyes. " I always hoped that you would marry me," he whispered as a tear escaped down his cheek.

She raised her white veil to get a better look at him. "Why didn't you ever tell me this before?"

"I always thought there would be more time."

"Oh, Mulder!" she breathed as she reached to kiss him.

"Don't, Scully! Don't! You'll only make it worse!"

"But, I love you, Mulder! I always have."

"It's a little too late for that now, Scully."

Tears welled up in her sapphire eyes. "What are we gonna do, Mulder?"

"We are going to walk down that aisle together, I am going to give your hand to Ambassador Spock, and you are going to marry him."

The USS Blackwell
14 weeks later
Fox Mulder's room Dana Scully stood outside his opened door and knocked. "Hey, Mulder, wanna come with me to the lab and check on the baby?"

He looked up from his computer screen and smiled, "Of course, Dr.Scully."

They walked side by side down the corridor to the Genetics Lab. Mulder followed her inside. "So how's the little guy doin'?"

"He's great!" She smiled proudly. "Look at him, he's perfect!"

Mulder peered at the greenish-yellow coated tube. "How can you tell? It's hard to see in there."

"His vital signs are perfect for a Vulcan. He is about the size of a 6 month old Human fetus."

"Have you figured out a name yet?"

"Kirk. Spock wants to call him Kirk after his best friend. I think it's a nice name."

"Do you really know if it's a boy?"

"Yes. Would you like to see a computer simulation of what he will look like?"

"You can do that?"

"Mulder, this is the 24th Century!"

"Oh, yeah, sometimes I forget. Sure, let's have a look at him!"

He followed her into a room containing several computer terminals. "Computer, show the physical simulation of Project 1013 C." A little baby with pointed ears, red hair and blue eyes appeared on the screen.

"He's beautiful, Scully!" Mulder said with awe in his voice. "He looks just like you!"

"Not quite, Mulder! He is a Vulcan."

"Yeah, but he looks so much like you! Wow!"

"Do you want to see what he will look like when he is older?"

"Sure!"

They were interrupted by a loud ringing noise, sounding remarkably like a 20th Century cell phone. She automatically reached for it, "Scully!"

Dana Scully's apartment
2:00 AM "It's me, Scully. Are you awake?"

"I am now, Mulder!"

"I can't sleep. Can I come over? They're having a Star Trek marathon on the Sci Fi Channel."

"Yeah, sure. Why not? I don't have anywhere to go tomorrow."

"Great! I'll see ya soon, Scully."

"Hey, Mulder?"

"Yeah?"

"I just had the strangest dream..."
