| Title: Tearin Up My Heart Summary: Mulder, with the help of a fab 5 and a pop star give Scully's teenage daughter a birthday to remember. Dedication: To boredom for making me concock this *weird* story. Note: This isn't like a second part to a series, so don't go out and try to find the beginning. All will be explained. This *is* an Ulternative Universe story after all and has NO relation to any other series I ever wrote. Prologue The revelation shocked Mulder, but probably not as bad as it shocked Ms. Scully - Her daughter had a daughter. No, it wasn't another Emily clone type thing. This daughter Scully vividly remembered *giving* birth to. Her name was Grace Kristina. Scully had conceived her when she was just eighteen, just entering Maryland U. She had kept the secret from her family, wearing baggy clothes, keeping a low weight and avoiding her family. Finally, June 19th 1983, in a Michigan hospital Scully gave birth to Grace Kristina, with the man who 'knocked' her up by her side. His name was Jonathan Doane. They mutually decided to give Grace Kristina up to a family in California, whom they opted not to learn their names. The decision was hard, but had to be made. Then, they both went their seperate ways. Years went by, fifteen to be exact, when Scully was handed a case. A brutal double murder in California. A business associate of the couple, who went bonkers and killed the couple. Then, her worst nightmare, the past she thought she buried, re-appeared. Home of Jake and Amanda Foster Scully made her way into the crime scene. Investigators crawling all over the beautiful Malibu home, taking pictures and blood samples. An officer approached her and she flipped out her badge. "Assistant Director Skinner sent you," the middle age man remarked, catching Scully off gaurd. "Yeah," she replied, in a daze as she watched the couple being zipped into black body bags. "It isn't pretty, is it?" he asked. She shook her head sadly. "Murder, suicide?" she asked. "Stable people," the officer said, directing her into the kitchen. "No past history of violence. Ziltch. Stable people." "Do you have any suspects?" "Afraid not." "Assistant Director Skinner gave me this case. Why *am* I on this case? I'm a D.C Agent who specializes -" "-in the paranormal." He smiled. "I know." "And this has...Rituralistic tones? I would really like to know why I was dragged from Atlanta, not Agent Mulder too, and brought out here." "Well, we assumed you knew these people." "I don't even know their names." "Jake and Amanda Foster." Scully shook her head, not recognizing the name. "You don't know them?" "No. I am afraid I don't, Detective." The detective pulled a piece of paper from his pocket and a pile of photos. "Well, apparently they knew you." Scully looked at the piece of paper that had her FBI profile. Her home phone was circled. There were what appeared to be surveillance photos of her and some with Mulder in them. "You don't' know them? You never had them involved on a case?" "I don' t know these people." Scully was exasperated. "Do you have any photos of them?" "Mantle in the living room," he told her, cocking his head towards the room. Scully silently excused herself and walked off to the living room where she looked at a picture of the couple. They didn't look familar. She turned her head to another photo that was a candid photo of a laughing teenager. She had peircing blue eyes and beautiful long dark red, a dark redwood color of hair. She had on a small pair of sophisticated reading glasses on. There were various other photos of the girl, from her childhood. "They have a daughter?" she asked, turning to the detective, who looked at her sadly, nodding his head. "Fifteen year old. Only child." "Was she killed?" "No. She wasn't at the house. She was at a football game." "Does she know?" "She's with some friends in Long Beach. ..She found them." Scully was enticed by the teenager. She was remarkably beautiful and seemed...she couldn't put her finger on it. Motel Six Scully went over case notes again, Mulder on the other end of the phone. "So, why did they send you out there?" Mulder asked. "I miss you." Scully smiled then sighed. "Apparently the couple that were murdered knew me, Mulder. Or at least they were surveilling me." "Memebers of Smokey's group?" "L.A Lawyer and a Realitor." "That bites," Mulder said. "But what do you mean?" "They had my FBI profile at their house," Scully told him, looking out the window. "And surveillance photos of me." "And you don't know these people?" "I never heard of these people, Mulder," Scully confessed, picking up the picture of the familar teenager. "However, there is one remaining clue. Mr and Mrs Foster have a teenaged daughter." "And maybe she'd know why they seemed to have had an interest in you." Motel Six Scully woke up to the sound of a pounding on her motel door. She thought that it was probably Mulder, so she didn't bother to slip on a robe over her pajamas. Though she wasn't wearing anything revealing. There stood the detective, envelope in hand. "Sorry to wake you, Agent Scully," the detective apologized. "It's - It's okay. What's up?" He handed her the envelope. It had her name on it and her home address. The return address was that of Mr and Mrs Foster. "Looking for Mr. Fosters appointment book and we found this. Thought maybe you'd like to take a look at it." Twenty Minutes Later Scully and the detective sat at the table in her motel room, both silent as Scully opened up the package that may have left a clue on their deaths. "Want me to read it out loud?" she asked. "It's a letter to you. It doens't matter." "I might as well just read it. I mean these people obviously have got the wrong Dana Scully." The detective smiled as Scully unfolded the letter and begain to read: Dear Ms Scully, You don't know my husband and I, at least you don't know our names. I'm Amanda Foster and my husband is Jake Foster, we live in Southern California. We adopted your daughter. Scully stopped reading, a gasp escaping her mouth. Her heart pounding. Just incase you have doubts she was born June 19th 1983 at 4:35AM at St. Cecilia's hospital in Bay City, Michigan. You gave her the name of Grace Kristina. A name we have kept...You're now probably wondering why after all this time we've decided to contact you. Well my husband and I have taken an interest in you because we decided to tell Grace that she was adopted but in the process we found out that you're an FBI Agent and instead of telling her now, we're asking for your help. My husband and I are afraid for our lives. He is a lawyer and prosecuted a former Manson family member for rape two years ago and since then this man, Girthin Small, has been sending threats to us. Now we haven't cared, except for the fact that he's escaped and the officials claim he went to Mexico, but we fear he's watching us and soon our lives will end. Ms Scully we have no other family and I know that this is asking a lot of you, but please watch out for Grace is anything were to happen. We are still planning on telling Grace, in the event something were to happen. You can meet her if you like. Again I am sorry for this inconvience. Scully folded the letter and looked at the table. "That was dated two days ago," she replied in a whisper. "Is that little girl your daughter?" Scully picked up the picture off the table and stared at it. "Apparently." Scully was now stuck. She wanted her daughter, she needed her daughter at this point in her life but only one person knew that she had been pregnant - Jonathan Doane. How was she going to explain this to her mother? To her brothers? To Mulder? "All packed?" Scully asked the girl, who had learned that she was adopted, then two days later her parents brutally murdered, she herself discovering the bodies, then meeting her biological mother two days later. Her life too had been turned upside down. "All packed," she replied, smiling the best she could given the circumstances. "Then lets head to D.C." Scully smiled, trying to hide the fear that filled her. Mulder's Apartment Mulder watched the FOX special "When Dogs Attack." as he ate his extra large, pepperoni infested pizza. He heard a knock on his door and immediantly ran to the door, knowing Scully was at the door. Or at least hoping. She said she was planning on coming up tonight. "Scully, hey," he said casually. "Can I come in?" she asked, a bit down. "Yeah," he said, letting her in and closing the door. "Sound down, what is it?" he asked. Scully turned to him. "Mulder, I have to tell you something. Something my family doesn't even know that I'm going to have to tell them," she said, choking up. "What?" "I gave birth to a baby girl in 1983. I was only nineteen." "Scully," Mulder said in disbelief. "The only other person that knew was the father and I don't even know where he is today." "You never told -" Scully shook her head negative. "Not even Melissa -" "No one, Mulder. No one knows." "Then why all of a sudden are you confessing to me, Scully?" "Because that girl who's parents were killed in Southern California, the case...That teenage girl is my daughter and she's at my appartment right now and she's now a part of my life and I have to tell the people I never told." Scully cried. "And in preparation of telling my family I thought I should tell you first." Mulder took Scully in his arms as she sobbed. "It's going to be okay Scully. I'm here. You've got my support. As always." Scully looked up at Mulder and smiled as he hand his hand down her silky hair. "So there's two of you now. Great." He joked, getting her to smile. "How am I going to survive. Someone upstairs must really hate me." Scully laughed at Mulder's attempt at humor, as he helped her clean the tears off her face. "So when are you telling your mother?" "Tomorrow," Scully told him. "Come with me." "You know it...But do I get to meet Scully #2?" "Yeah, if you want to." "I want to. I want." He smiled. "What's her name?" "Grace Kristina. I gave it to her." "I love it," he whispered. "And I'm going to love her like I love her mother." Outside Maggie Scully's
House Scully turned off the car engine. Mulder took her hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze as she built up her confidence. "Good luck Dana," Grace said from the back of the car. Scully turned and looked at her daughter, realizing that she was soing this so that she could give her daughter a stable life. A family. "Thank you," she said. "And it looks like Bill's home so don't worry, I'll keep the engine going in case we need an escape vehicle." "And you'll need it when I tell him that *you* fathered Grace. 0.6 seconds before your demise," Scully teased jumping out the car before Mulder could grab her. "Bill?" Grace asked Mulder. "Your uncle Bill. Navy Ass who doesn't like me and blames me for everything that has ever happened to your mother since I met her." "He doesn't like you. That's all you had to say." She smiled. "All you had to say." "So Dana, what's so important?" Maggie asked her daughter. "Mom, sit down." She told Maggie, looking at Tara. Maggie's heart thumped as she thought of the worse. "Cancer? It isn't your cancer is it? It isn't -" "Mom it isn't cancer...but it involves the whole family." Tara took a seat at the tbale next to Maggie as Bill stayed by the patio window. "Mom, there's something I have to confess to you. Something I never told you or Dad or Charlie or Bill or Melissa." "Dana what is it?" Maggie asked. "Mom remember when I was starting at Maryland U? And I became depressed?" "You were depressed the whole first year. I remember Dana. You were distant from the family. Your father and I thought you were on drugs until you started gaining some of the weight..." "Mom, I wasn't depressed, I wasn't on drugs." Scully began to explain. "The real reason Mom, the real reason I was so funny was because...Mom I was pregnant." Maggie looked at her daughter in disbelief. "Pregnant?" she asked, her voice shaky and filled with anger. "Yes." Maggie jumped from the table in a rage. "How could you Dana? Who - Who was the father?" Bill asked, angry. "Someone you don't know, okay?" She answered Bill. "Dana I demand to be told why you never told me or your father. What happened to this child?" Maggie yelled, slamming her hands down in front of Scully, causing her to wince. "You and Dad wouldn have been so disappointed Mom. That's why I never told you!" "What happened to the child Dana?" Bill asked. "I gave her up for adoption." "Are you meaning to tell me that I've had a granddaughter out there and you never told me? Especially when I believed that I'd never grandmother any of your children?" "Mom your granddaughter is in my car!" Scully yelled, getting up to duke it out. "And I am not bringing her into this house with your and Bill like this. She's very fragile right now! Her parents were just brutally murdered and she found their bodies! "I gave her up because I wasn't ready to be a mother and right now it's hard for both of us. We're both trying to adjust to this. Now I have Mulder's support and frankly if I didn't get yours I'd be fine. I will not have my daughter subjected to this." "But you much rather have her subjected to someone like Fox Mulder." Bill replied. "Get used to him Bill because he's in my life and I'm not giving up one of the greatest things in my life because you don't like him. I *want* him in my life and I *need* him in my life. Especially now and you won't see your neice until you can accept every aspect of my new life." So Scully laid it out and a few days later the whole Scully clan, Bill, Tara, Matthew, Charles, Karen, Steven, Andrew, and Charlene and Maggie met the new addition to the the family. Fifteen year old Grace Kristina and Fox Mulder who Grace had developed a strange attachement to. Scully could only smile at her forming family and how her life was coming together. Dana Scully's Condo "Oh baby, baby how was I supposed to know?....Oh pretty baby I shouldn't have let you go...." "Now grind your hips like this," Grace instructed Mulder, trying to teach Mulder how to dance to the -oh -so- cool, Britney Spears. Instead Mulder turned around and did a Michael Jackson 'moon' walk. Causing Grace to look at him in disgust. "How early ninties." She cringed, changing the song to number 2. "Crazy." "Watch and learn," she instructed as she made up some dance moves, grooving to the music. "I know you certainly didn't get this part of your genetic makeup from your mother." Mulder remarked, taking a seat at the counter in the kitchen. "Hey." Scully scolded from the oven. "I can groove." This caused both Mulder and Grace to start laughing. "Gonna be an exotic laaaapppp dannnnnceeerrr," Grace sang, dancing around. "No your not!" Scully said, her head popping back up from the oven. "Spook?" Grace asked Mulder. Mulder just shrugged and turned back the paper. "But I do know some...dancers if you want lessons for your birthday." "Topless dancers are still the same as exotic dancers Mulder." Scully reminded him. "Well, I guess we can forget that idea." "Good try though Spook." Grace smiled. "My life's mission - to make people happy." "Or to piss them off." Scully added. "More or less the latter." Mulder put down the paper and smiled at Scully before turning back to it. "Are you going to let me get a tatoo for my sweet sixteenth?" "No." "Yes." Mulder and Scully looked at each other. "She's not getting one Mulder," Scully told him. "I thought we already discussed this." "I thought we were going to let her." "I agree with Spook." "Well I don't. " "Again, because I am not a legal parent I have no say," Mulder told Grace. "Then for my birthday you better make it legal." "And that would involve adopting you and marrying your mother and I am not ready for the latter. Do I look to have a death wish?" Scully threw a potato at him, hitting him in the head. "Oh, you're going to get it for that." Mulder remarked, throwing down the paper and going after Scully. Finally catching her and throwing her on to the couch and getting up top of her. "Can you two save the kinky stuff for when I'm not around?" Grace teased. Scully looked up at Mulder and smiled. "We'll continue this later." He smiled. LATER That Night Mulder sat on the couch, flipping through channels while Scully changed into her pajama's. After a few moments Scully emerged in a silk two piece pajama set. "You couldn't even tease me?" Mulder joked, as she took a seat beside him. "We've got to talk about Grace's birthday Mulder. What's going on? I mean it's her first with us and it's her sixteenth." "Well I though we were going to throw a surprise party with her friends, her boy-toy Keven agreed to handle the guest list. We fake taking her to her grandmothers...then take her to the party. I mean I need to know to book the hall and DJ," Mulder whispered. "Yeah. We'll do that and then we'll have one at my moms the next day." "Sounds good. What did you get her?" "She's getting her license soon so I was considering getting her something in that area...What about you?" "I can't tell you Scully. It's still in the ... works." "Mulder...I know you love her but don't go overboard." Mulder put a hand to his heart. "I'm offended Scully." "Mulder." "Okay, Okay." Scully sighed. "I'm justing telling you. Warning you." Mulder & Scully's Office Mulder looked up when he saw Scully enter the office. She was three hours late, causing him to raise an eyebrow. "And where were you?" he asked, hanging up the phone. "Had to take Grace to the hospital." "What - Why? Is she okay?" Mulder asked, getting upset. "She's going to be fine." Scully soothed. "But she's in the hospital. And she may be in there for awhile." "Why?" "Appendicitis." "What?" "When I left the hospital they were taking her out of the O.R." "Why didn't you call me?" Mulder asked. "Because you were the last person on my mind?" Scully answered sarcastically. "Scully I just got off the phone with the owner of the hall. We have it booked and we have one hundred and twenty five teenagers invited to this party...That is to happen in seven days and my birthday present, ughh." Scully looked at Mulder oddly. "What *are* you getting her Mulder?" "I told you Scully I can't tell you but I can't go getting it if she isn't going to be at the party." "Mulder there's a slight chance she may not make it and then there's a chance that she may not. It depends on how she recovers. Right now we can only keep the party scheduled." D.C General Mulder walked in and Grace smiled, looking away from her mother and grandmother. "Hey beautiful. Heard your appendis exploded." Grace looked at Mulder and rolled her eyes. "You have a way of making people feel so good." Mulder produced a *huge* Teddy Bear from behind his back. Grace's face lit up and she smiled. Scully sighed. "Hey - no objections." Mulder warned. "Yeah, my apprendis blew up and it was *your* cooking that caused it." "Yeah," Mulder agreed, giving Grace the flowers and bear and a kiss on the forehead. "Just remember that when your hungry," Scully said. "So kiddo you get better because spending your birthday in a hospital sucks." Mulder smiled, then took a rose out of the boquet. "And I better give this to your mother, try to get her on my good side." Mulder walked over to Scully and gave her the rose, getting on a knee he leaned his chin on the arm of the chair. "I suppose if I spoiled you a bit more then you might not be as hostile in my attempts to be fatherly to your daughter." "I'm just tired," she whispered. Mulder ran a hand down her face, bringing her chin up so they could look in each other's eyes. Her eyes were filled with tears. Outside the Room "I almost lost her today Mulder. The doctors said it was close." Mulder took Scully into his arms and held her tight. "But she made it and you can't think of the negative. We've got to concentrate on the good and getting her better." Scully looked into Mulder's eyes and smiled. "Thank you for being my rock. I love you." "I love you too." He smiled, holding her tight. Scully's Condo "Grace! Hurry up! Your grandmother is going to have supper finished by the time we arrive!" Scully yelled again towards Grace's room. Scully huffed and turned to Mulder, who was fiddling with his tie. She sighed and did it for him. "Geez, I thought I was a basket case over this." "Lately yes and I know it has to do with your birthday gift but tonight I'm hoping all will go right and you didn't go overboard on the birthday present." "Afraid she's going to love me more?" Scully gave Mulder a look as Kate came down the stairs, wearing her red hair up in curls, her make- up simple, her dress was sweude blue with arm covers and ended above her knees. "Man am I lucky. Getting to escort the two most beautiful people to dinner." Both Scully women blushed. "Mom, he's a suck." "Tell me about it." Scully smiled, taking his arm as they left the building. Marcus Dance Hall "Well I guess she loves it," Scully said to Mulder, cocking her head towards the dancing girl with her friends. "Then I suppose it's time for her gift." Scully looked at Mulder then smiled. "Okay." "Admit it Scully, you're just as excited and curious." "Damn right." Mulder gave Scully a peck on her cheek and walked up to the front of the building. He cued the DJ to quit the music, causing the crowd to boo. Mulder stood infront of the mike. "Whoa, Whoa, I just wanted to come up and give the beautiful birthday girl her one and only gift." "It's tearin up my heart when I'm with you...." Started the singing as five guys poped out from behind the curtain, causing screams from all over the room. Mulder turned his head towards Scully who was beyond the perverbial point of shocked. "but when we are apart I feel it too (hey..yeah)
Baby I don't understand All of a sudden the music changed to another familar tune. And a female appeared out on stage. "Oh baby baby, " Sang Britney Spears to loud screams from the room. Show me how you want it to be Mulder looked over to Scully again who was in total disbelief. He walked over towards her as she shook her head. "How the hell did you manage to pull this off?" she asked. "I have an extensive Celebrity clientell list." "Your not telling me that Britney Spears believes she was abducted by a UFO and the N'sync group?" "I'm famous Scully, they believe and they wanted to meet me. The perfect opportunity for your daughter...And hey I got them for you too. You said you can groove." Scully looked to Mulder and shook her head again in disbelief. Britney Spears' song ended and the boys of N'sync reappeared. "Can I have this dance?" Mulder asked Scully. "Can this be true? Mulder held Scully close as they moved back and forth to the music. "Your love is like a river, peaceful in deed your soul is like a secret that I never could keep when I look into your eyes I know that it's true. God must have spent a little more time on you...." Mulder finally leaned in and kissed Scully passionately. They pulled away and smiled. "That was long overdue, Mulder." "Tell me about it." Mulder wrapped his arms around her and they both watched the party, holding each other tight. Grace turned around and saw them and smiled, watching them for a moment. From a distance a man watched *her*. Je suis FINIS End note: Puis-je aller chercher mon livre dans ma casier madame, s'il vous plait? Damn good in English, no?
