Summary - Mulder reflects at Scully's grave when things take a supernatural turn.
A tall man stood alone on the grassy hill. The moonlight poured into his eyes, shining brightly with his tears.
"Scully." The soft voice sounded strange, out of place.
He blinked a few times as he stared at the grave. How would he manage? His partner had been his sanity, his lifeline, his anchor to reality. Scully made the demons disappear.
Mulder looked quickly up at the sky, struggling to control the whirlwind inside. Kneeling on the dirt, he placed the fragrant violets at the foot of the stone tenderly. So tenderly. Softly he tread around the grave, stopping once to bend and stroke the cold white stone.
"I can't do this, Scully. How can I face the demons without you?" He distractedly brought his hand up to brush his hair from his forehead. His hazel eyes were red and dry, with no tears left to give. Mulder was empty. The pieces of his heart were crumbling, crumbling away.
There was nothing left, and he knew what he had to do. Somewhere in the confusion and clamor of his mind, he felt something calling him. Calmly, tearlessly, he put the gun in his mouth. As he kneeled by her, he felt the wind change. he thought, as he closed his eyes softly and placed his finger over the trigger.
Mulder's eyes flew open. That voice -- he'd recognized it so many times before. Tears begin anew, as his heart flipped inside of him. Was it breaking again? Confused, he turned around.
"Is that what you want?" A pale yet radiant hand reached for the gun, as a very different Dana Scully captured his gaze. Her skin was translucent and her red hair floated softly about her exquisite face. A soft blue glow surrounded her slim floating figure. The woman had heaven in her eyes.
The bewilderment quickly left Mulder's face, and in its stead a new serenity filled him. He felt no fear, as the angel inspired only love in his heart. He only stood before her, reflecting her surreal beauty in his eyes. "I only want to be with you, Scully. You're everything to me. I . . . I love you, and I never told you that." A little bit more threatened to crumble inside of him, and Mulder let it fall. The stubborn wall that held those words back for so long came tumbling down.
"Is that really what you want?"
"More than anything."
He nodded, more sure of himself than he had ever been in his life.
She hesitated, then took his hand in hers and pulled him upward. Their lips met, softly at first, then more confidently, and Mulder felt her silent intense energy flow into his body.
Two brilliant stars crossed the night sky as the soft violet petals fluttered in the night wind.
