Title: Just Another Small Town Abduction Case Summary: Mulder and Scully investigate an alien abduction cases that have been happening to an entire town in Maryland. Patuxent River, Maryland The thin, short, shadowy figure stood over her. "No, not again... go away, don't touch me, please, go away!" Then nothing. The alarm clock rang it's monotonous buzz in her ear. Alexis Miller opened her eyes, confused. Where...? Oh it was a dream! Alexis, you're so stupid! What's wrong with you? She thought. She raised her arms to stretch, but only gasped in pain. "What the hell?!" She whispered in panic. She touched her back. Blood covered the sheets and her fingers. Oh god, no, it wasn't all a bad dream... They'd come back... FBI Headquarters Special Agent Dana Scully walked down the musty basement hall to the basement office she shared with her partner, Fox Mulder. She was late again, for the second time that week. And being late even once was one time to many for her. She turned the door handle and walked in. Papers and pictures were strewn all over the desk and the floor. She gingerly stepped over them. "Morning Scully, glad you could make it on this *beautiful* morning," he said with an evil grin. It was pouring down rain outside. "What's all this?" she asked gesturing to the desk and floor. "*That* is a new case," he said. "Around 8 this morning Alexis Miller, age 15, woke up to the pleasant surprise of having a huge open gash in her back. She supposedly has a history of alien abduction. Upon examination at the hospital, the doctors found that she's missing a bone chip from a rib, possibly taken for cloning purposes." "Where is she now, Mulder?" "Oh, not far. She's in a hospital in Patuxent River. Let's go talk to her." Scully picked up her jacket and followed Mulder out the door. Patuxent General Hospital A doctor that didn't bother to introduce himself led Mulder and Scully to Alexis's room. "Good luck getting her to talk to you. She's really upset and she won't talk to any of us." A girl with long brown hair and green eyes looked up as they entered. "Alexis, these are FBI agents Mulder and Scully." He disappeared out the door. Before either of them could say a word, Alexis spoke. " Do you know how long this has been happening? And now, after 5 years of being abducted twice a year, they finally called the FBI. It's about time someone believed me. Unless they brought you down here to lock me away in a mental institute. I'm not crazy. But you probably don't believe me." "Ok, so what happened?" Mulder asked. "All I remember is a little alien or some thing standing over me, and then I woke up at home. I thought it was a dream until I found out that there was blood all over my back." She looked away. "Has this happened to anyone else you know?" Scully asked gently. "Yeah, my little brother. They did experiments on his brain. Now he's retarded. He's 12 and he'll crawl into my lap sucking his thumb, and ask me to watch Barney with him. No one did anything about it. The aliens seem to like us in Patuxent River. I know tons of people who say they've been abducted, but hardly anyone else will believe them." Her eyes narrowed. "So I really don't think that you all believe me either." "I believe you," Mulder said. "But really, there's nothing you can do about it," Alexis pointed out. " What are you going to do, arrest the aliens or something?" She had a point, Mulder realized. They could investigate this all they wanted, but the aliens would still come back. "Let's go Scully, this isn't going anywhere," Mulder said. "Thanks for your time Alexis." "Anytime," she replied. Mulder followed Scully out the door. They drove back in silence. When they were almost out of Patuxent River, Scully spotted something on the road. "Mulder, pull over." "Why?" "Because there's something on the side of the road." He pulled over and Scully got out. She walked to a large heap a few feet away. " Mulder, I think you'd better come look at this." Scully pulled a pair of latex gloves from her pocket. She flipped the body over onto it's stomach. A large gash was streaked across the girl's back. She also noticed blood draining out of the ear, indicating as brain hemorrhage. Mulder came up behind her. "Another one?" Scully nodded and dialed a number on her cell phone. "Scully, do you think she was abducted?" "Are you crazy Mulder? I never really believe abduction crap." She looked down at the body of the girl. She must have been around thirteen. "But after what Alexis told us, I'm starting to wonder." "So you believe her?" "Well," Scully said, skeptical as usual, "she may have been drugged by someone. After what she says has happened, maybe this was someone's idea of a sick joke. We'll have to go talk to her again. I want to run a toxicological screen to see if she has any thing strange in her blood." Mulder shrugged. His partner would never truly believe. The local police arrived minutes later. They collected the usual forensic evidence and handed it over to Mulder and Scully, promising to ship the body back to FBI Headquarters for an autopsy. FBI Headquarters "Victims name... Alisa Legault, age 16 white female, 105 pounds. Found along highway 39 at 11:40 am on It was noon by the time she finished up. Scully concluded that she had died from a brain hemorrhage, not from the laceration or shock. She had been dead since approximately 1:00 am on "Oh there you are," Mulder said walking into their shared office. "What'd you find?" She told him about the findings. "Hmmmm, interesting, but Scully, that's a little too normal for an X-file. What about the abduction?" Scully sighed. " We'll see when the toxicological report comes back in a few hours." "Maybe we should go pay a little visit to Alexis Miller." Miller Residence, Patuxent River, Maryland Alexis had just got back from the hospital and was trying to take a nap to escape Tommy and her neurotic mother, Linda. She was almost asleep when the doorbell rang and Tommy came barreling into her room and jumped on the couch, landing on her foot. She jumped up surprised. "Ow!!!!" She yelled. "Tommy! That hurt!" "I-I sorry Lexi," he said. She sighed. "It's okay Tommy. What is it?" "Door." Alexis sighed. What did people want right now? Didn't they realize she wanted to sleep? Some people... She made her way to the door slowly. Whoever it was could wait if it was really important. She flung open the door with an irritable scowl and saw the two FBI agents on her doorstep. "Yeah...?" "Alexis we need to talk to you one more time," Scully said. "That's what you said last time." "I know, but something came up..." Alexis sighed and opened the door letting them inside the house. Tommy immediately rushed over to see the visitors, his thumb in his mouth. "Lexi, who they?" "I'll tell you later," Alexis lied. Tommy wouldn't known what in hell an FBI agent was. God, he had once been so smart... Alexis shoved that thought aside, not wanting to think about it. It brought back such sad memories... "Have a seat," she said to Mulder and Scully. "Did you know Alisa Legault?" Mulder asked. "Yeah, she's one of my best friends, why... did something happen to her?" Mulder looked at Scully and Scully looked at Mulder. "Alexis, we found her on the side of the road, she had a brain hemorrhage, she may have been abducted by ...aliens. I'm so sorry..." Alexis shut her eyes momentarily. "Oh god...she was one of the only people I could talk to about the abductions... I mean, it was happening to everyone, but we rarely went into details, it was just, 'yep, the friendly little green men carried me away last night, no big deal... no one went into details about what happened except to their closest friends... These little bastards are destroying our lives, but, well, it's not like we can do anything about it. I'm not the only one with a retarded little brother. And occasionally I'll hear about someone I know being carted off to a mental institute because they went to bed perfectly sane, but when they woke up they were totally insane. I hate all this, I just want their little planet to blow up, but so far, no such luck..." Her voice broke. "Is it possible that you could help us get in touch with some other abductees that you know?" Mulder asked. "Yeah, hang on a minute," she said brushing away a tear and walking to the kitchen. She wrote down twenty names and phone numbers on a sheet of paper and handed it to Mulder. "These people will probably talk to you," she said. Scully wrote down her cell phone number. " Alexis, if anything else happens, call me." Alexis nodded and led them out the door. She slumped against the wall... Alisa...dead. That didn't sound right. Her best friend and fellow abductee was gone... forever. All because some stupid aliens had probably experimented on her brain. Aliens... people spent billions of dollars trying to figure out if there was intelligent life in space. All they needed to do was just ask Alexis or some of her friends. They would all say a unanimous yes. So why bother? But that didn't matter. No one believed them anyway. A lot of people still wouldn't believe in aliens if one showed up on their doorstep. People could be so stubborn and stupid. If only they could comprehend what had been happening in Patuxent River for the past five years. Swenson Residence "So who's first on the list?" Scully asked. "Um... some girl named Crystal Swenson," Mulder said. "She lives on 33587 Frenet St. Alexis noted that she was a very reliable source. Her whole family has apparently been abducted." "I can't believe this Mulder. We've been working on the X-Files for four years, and these incidents haven't been brought to our attention until now. And we get cases about minor things like one time abductions, but never, until now, do we hear of abductions of entire towns." "They're teenagers Scully," Mulder said with a sigh. "Did anyone ever really believe you when you were one? No one believed me when I started to believe that aliens had abducted Samantha." He stared out the window. Scully realized that this case, like many of their other ones, hit Mulder too close to home. They arrived at Crystal Swenson's house. A girl with willowy blonde hair and green eyes answered the door, puffing on a cigarette. Loud music filtered down from upstairs. "Uh, who are you?" "We need to speak to Crystal Swenson," Scully said. "We're with the FBI." Crystal immediately dropped the cigarette into a nearby ashtray. "What did I do?" Mulder almost laughed. People were always like that when they showed up somewhere unexpectedly. "Nothing, we just need to talk to you about the alien abduction that we were told happened to you." Crystal paled. "Oh my god, I really don't want to talk about that. Who told you about that?" "Alexis Miller," Scully said. "Oh, Alexis, I know her. Did they come back for her last night? We all knew that it would happen to her any day now. These alien-guys are very on schedule." "Yes they did," Scully said. "Do you know Alisa Legault?" "Yeah, she's Alexis's best friend." "She died last night." "Oh god. Someone always dies around this time of year." "Hey Crystal!" someone called from upstairs. "Are you coming back?" "Matt come here! You're an abductee. Maybe you should come down here and talk to the FBI agents." "The...FBI? What do they want?" Another teenager sauntered down the steps. He eyed Mulder and Scully skeptically. "I didn't do anything. Go arrest the aliens." Crystal and Matt told them the same story that they had heard from Alexis. Mulder and Scully questioned the other abductees, but nothing changed from story to story. They agreed to get dinner and drop the case. There really was nothing they could do. An Alley in Patuxent River Mulder's car was parked in the alley. He and Scully walked out to it after dinner. In the shadows, Mulder spotted something by the car. Pulling out his gun, he pulled Scully over out of the light. "Mulder..." she gasped. "Shhh." He saw Alexis and...Alexis again. There were two of them. Alexis #1 had a gun to Alexis#2's head. Suddenly Mulder understood. They'd taken the bone chip from the real Alexis's backfor cloning purposes. Now suddenly, in one day, there was another Alexis. An Alien Alexis. He shot at the one with the gun to Alexis's head. They evaporated. Gone. Vanished into thin air. Mulder blinked. And blinked again. They really were gone. "Mulder! What was that?" A shocked Scully asked. Mulder closed his eyes and turned to her. "Nothing. They're gone. This case just needs to go in a pile of unsolved X-Files." He shrugged and got in the car. Aliens would just have to be aliens. Maybe one day they'd really find the truth that had to be out there. The End So what did you think? It's only my first attempt at fanfic, so I NEED feed-back and story ideas. |
