Author's note: You'd think that one of these days I'd learn to ignore challenges by now, but no. My good friend Catarina challenged me to write a silly fic to the song "Lover's Untrue" written by Mercedes Lackey and Leslie Fish, and this is what came out of it.

Dana Scully found herself in a medieval outfit, facing a Fox Mulder wearing an outfit somewhat similar to hers. She fell into his arms, declaring "I shall love you till I die!"

He looked into her eyes, and swore, "On my life I vow, only death could part us now!"

She answered his vow with one of her own, "You are life and death; nothing severs us but Death."

As they lay there in each other's arms, neither of them knew that those lightly spoken vows were easily broken.

Mulder approached Bambi, and asked her under the light of the moon, "Come and ride awhile with me. Look," he gestured skyward, "the moon is rising high and countless stars bestrew the sky. Come or all the hours are flown." He gave her that puppy-dog look that Scully knew so well, "It's no night to lie alone."

Obviously, the one who had proclaimed that he would love Scully until he died had easily forgotten that vow.

Bambi rode away with him without a second thought.

Dana walked to Alan Pendrell, and shook her red hair back, asking, "Alan, do you think me fair? I have long admired you," she graced him with a rare smile, "Come, the night is you nad now, and the wind is growing cold." She tossed him a look that Mulder knew well from their many encounters. "I would see if you were bold."

Dana had convieniently forgotten about Mulder, the one she had sworn that until death, he was life and breath.

Alan rode off into the night at her side.

As dawn approached, Alan and Dana rode back to the place where their rendevous had begun...

To find Mulder laying with Bambi under a tree.

Mulder and Scully looked at each other as the confusion settled in and silence prevailed. Then, Mulder laughed.

"Well, Scully, I guess we must be dead!"

Scully woke up screaming, "No!"

Then she looked around her bedroom, and Mulder was lying in the bed beside her. It was just another day. In fact, it wasn't even 3 am, yet.

That's when she realized what the problem was. The last strains of the song "Lovers Untrue" was coming out of the speakers. She couldn't remember putting it in, but it was on now. She hit the stop button angrily and turned over, snuggling next to Mulder.

"I'm gonna kill the person who gave me that tape..."

The End :)
