Title: Womb of the Morning Summary: How I wanted the birth of William to happen. Mulder lies sleeping so peacefully that I hate to stir for fear of waking him! It is not that frequent that he sleeps as soundly as he is now, but there is a reason and I guess I am it! I am remembering the birth of our son as I sit on the bed cradling Will who is getting ready to nurse, as I watch Mulder sleep. It has only been a month since we welcomed this tiny, precious life into the world, but what an entrance! Who would have thought that Mulder and I would deliver our son together? I had visions of me barely getting to the hospital alone, figuring Mulder would be out chasing flukemen or little gray men! "Scully," he said wiping the windshield with his gloved hand to wipe the condensation off, "how are you feeling?" Scully stirred in the backseat where she was sleeping, or trying to. The ride has taken much longer than expected because of the weather conditions. They were only going to be gone for the day at the cabin just for relaxation, looking for Christmas trees, but now it appeared that they might get stuck there for a while. Scully was a bit concerned but tried not to let Mulder know. She was having Braxon Hicks contractions all morning and they were getting worse. They should have been up to the cabin and back already, but the snowfall forced them to sit on the road for a spell then the heavy traffic was rerouted and they had to back track and Mulder decided to just plug ahead to the cabin instead of turning around since they had lost so much time. Of course, Scully did not tell him how she was feeling, so it was really her fault if she gave birth up at the cabin with no one there in attendance except Mulder! "A little tired, Mulder," she answered, trying not to alarm him. "I just want to get there. Are we almost there," she whined and she did not care if he knew she was whining. He stopped the car and turned around to face a flushed Scully holding her stomach! "My God," he almost screamed, "are you OK? Are you in labor, are..." He did not know what else to say and she could tell that he was getting upset. "Mulder, no, it is not labor. Don't be alarmed. It is way too early, trust me, I am the doctor. I am just tired and having some Braxon Hicks that is all, but it is not real labor. We have a long time to go. The little one can't appear just yet. It is too early," she said and she tried to convince herself of that fact, but did not believe it! She hoped that Mulder did. She just wanted to lie down on a bed and reassess the situation after she stood up on her feet! He stroked her hair and stomach as their hands joined and interlocked. "God, Scully," he whispered tenderly, "I am so sorry. We should not have come up here. I should not have insisted that we come up here and look for a Christmas tree to cut down and spend the day. It is almost night and we should be on our way back and now we may never get there. Where in the hell did this all this snow come from?" he asked angrily. "It was not forecast. It was supposed to be cold but clear and dry," he added, totally frustrated. "Mulder, don't blame yourself, please. I wanted to come up here. It is too early for the baby to arrive and we have no control over the weather. We did not expect any of this," she added. "But," she laughed, "we should know that nothing that we do is ever normal or easy. Come on, turn around and let's get up there already," she smiled at him. "OK, but try to rest and not to worry, please. I will have you up there in no time and I will personally tuck you into bed. Scout's honor," he s aid as he saluted her, kissed her tenderly as he turned to start the engine again. They were up at the cabin in 20 minutes or so as he drove eagerly as the roads had been salted and cleared of most of the white stuff. He told Scully not to move as he opened the back door and scooped her up into his arms and carried her into the cabin! He placed her upon the couch, looked for firewood, and started a roaring fire as she watched in excitement peeling off her coat and sweater. He was at her feel helping her with her boots when he realize what she was doing. "Don't exert yourself," he said to her. "Mulder," I am only pregnant, not crippled," she scolded him with a laugh and a huge grin. "I know, I know, but I just want to take care of you Scully, spoil you if you will. Won't you please indulge me just this once?" he begged her and pouted with that lower lip almost on the floor! How could she resist? She acquiesced as she allowed him to help her undress. She was sitting on the couch in her sweats and he went out to get their on e bag that they brought. She did not bring much but she remembered that they had left things in the cabin from a previous visit and she would tell him to retrieve the stuff she needed in a minute. She lay back and he came to cover her with an afghan. "Warm now?" he asked, as he kissed her tenderly on the forehead, then the lips. How about some cocoa or hot tea?" he asked her. "Which would my lady prefer?" "Hmm," she was deciding, "not sure which I want. Both sound delicious, but I think I need the caffeine since I don't want to sleep right now, so the cocoa sounds good but only if you have marshmallows to go along with it. You know how I feel about my hot cocoa," she said. "Yes, yes, I do," he laughed as he arose to head to the kitchen to prepare the brew for her. The room was getting warm and she felt safe and secure as she snuggled under the afghan with her hands upon her belly. "Calm down, little one," she whispered to her baby. "It is much too early for you to make an appearance and we are no where near a hospital." She started to sing to her baby as she tried to relax but she had a feeling that the baby had a mind of his own and she wondered if she and Mulder would deliver their child this night. Mulder appeared quickly with two mugs brimming over with marshmallows! Scully's eyes lit up when she beheld the sight and she eagerly sat up to retrieve the mug from his hand. "Oh, this tastes divine," she said between sips. Mulder placed her slippers he took from their bedroom and placed them on her feet. "I will give you a foot rub after I down my cocoa," he promised her. He was sitting on the floor with his back against the couch and she slid down beside him. He moved her over between his legs and placed his chin upon t he top of her head. He placed his mug on the floor and wrapped his arms around her stomach and started massaging gently, talking to their son. He could feel him kicking and he started to tell him to calm down. "Hey, junior," he whispered, "you need to calm down and go to sleep now. Mommy is tired and we need to think of what to do in case you decide to make an early appearance." Scully started to laugh but realized that Mulder might have a point. He was still massaging as she asked him about the sex of the baby. "Junior," she inquired with a smile? "Do we know that this baby is a he?" she asked him laughing. "Well, Scully," he said, "the way that he has been kicking lately makes me think that we have a little guy in there. Of course, if he turns out to be a she I will not be disappointed. I just have an honest to goodness feeling that the baby is a he," he said emphatically. He continued to massage, Scully relaxing under his touch, leaning her head against his chest trying to catch a few z's. The fire was roaring and outside, well, outside was a blizzard now as Mulder noticed the whiteout. He wanted to get up to get a picture up close of what was happening. He knew they were going to spend the night, not as planned, but he knew that they were not going anywhere tonight. He did not want to disturb Scully so he decided to just sit there holding her allowing her to sleep as he tried to doze himself. The baby calmed down as Mulder talked to him. Mulder seemed pleased with himself and prayed that he was not going to have to deliver their son alone. When Scully screamed in pain he was awake in a flash! She was breathing heavily and leaning forward. He looked at his watch and figured they had dozed for at least 20 minutes. "Scully, what is it, sweetheart? Is it Braxon or the real thing this time" he asked when he saw and felt the pool of water in front of Scully? He was scared now. He knew she told him that her water had to break first before she went into labor and he kept trying to figure out what exactly that meant! He was thinking to himself now that this must be it, the real thing as he massaged her shoulders and listened to her breathe and tried to coach her, remembering the Lamaze classes they sat through! "Breathe, Scully, that's it, one, two, three, breathe..." he whispered to her. "Mulder, I need to sit on the couch or lie down, please. Can you help me up?" she asked him. "Yes, here," he said as he placed his arms under hers and she grabbed onto him. She sat down and rubbed her stomach. "Scully, should I boil some water?" he asked frightened. Scully laughed. "Yes, Mulder, boil some water," she replied as she placed her head on the back of the couch. Come back in after you get the water going and I am going to give you instructions," she rattled to him waiting for another contraction to overtake her. He looked confused, scared and totally lost as he stood there deciding what to do first. "The water, Mulder; you are going into the kitchen to boil some water,"she firmly said to him again. "Water, yes, OK, I can do that," he answered as he went in grabbing a pot from the cupboard and started to fill it with water. He was back in a few minutes by her side, taking her hand. "Are you OK, Scully? Can we do this? Is this the real thing? Oh God," he asked wanting to help but not really knowing what to do. "Yes," she smiled at him now, "we can do this Mulder, and really we have no choice because I think that your son wants to make an entrance and he just is not going to wait for anyone. Now, I need you to listen carefully and help me out here. Please, first, don't be scared. I am a doctor, I am in great physical shape, you are competent and we can do this together. We really do have everything we need and remember that the pioneers and Indians gave birth without the help of doctors, hospitals, etc.," she explained to him as he sat wide-eyed wondering how she could remain so calm! Mulder sort of calmed down as he kept rubbing her hand and listening intently. He knew the baby's life depended on him. He had to be strong. Shoot, he thought, he went through hell and back, was challenged with the worst that life had to throw at them and he could deliver his child. "First, I want to change into something comfortable, and not as restricting. Can you get my nightgown hanging on the back of the bedroom door? It should still be where I left it from the last visit. Next, gather the towels from the chest, the white ones and some wash cloths. Then we will need a blanket to wrap the baby in. There should also be a clean one in the chest under the towels. The scissors are in the kitchen in the drawer where the micro is. You will need to boil the scissors, ok? Lastly, grab my medical bag from the trunk and then bring my carryall over here on the couch with me. I need to get some pads I brought with me. I think that is everything. If I remember anything else or you do, we will go from there. I think we have at least another hour from the closeness of the contractions. Go, Mulder, I am fine," she said to him as he just looked at her with all the love he had in his heart. He felt his chest constrict and tears brimming in his eyes. They were going to deliver this baby that was a miracle. A child that everyone told Scully that she would not have and now, he would be here shortly. He was going to be a father, Scully a mother, they were going to be parents he wildly thought as he went about to follow through Scully's instructions. He brought everything into the living room and placed them on the coffee table, which he moved to the side of the couch. He placed more logs into the fireplace and stoked the fire, which roared. He checked outside and saw all the snow Mother Nature was dumping. It was beautiful. Scully tried to get up and he was beside her helping her to her feet. "I need to walk a bit, Mulder," she said. "Can you massage my lower back?" she asked him. "I want to see the snow, Mulder," she told him as she headed to the door. I also need some air." "OK," he said as he took her over to the door and opened it. The stormdoor had the glass in so they stood there looking out the glass at the sight in front of them. There was at least 4 inches of snow on the ground and it was still snowing. The lights from the road cast a glistening glow on the blanket in front of them and made for a beautiful sight. The trees were full of snow and Scully could not think of a more beautiful picture. "God, Mulder, look at how beautiful it is. Snow always has a way of making everything look so special and new, doesn't it?" she asked him. He was rubbing her back as he answered. "Yes, it is a sight. I just hope that we can get out of here in the morning, Scully. We will need to get you both to a hospital," he worried. She turned to face him placing her arms around his neck as he scooted down to accommodate her. "Lift me, Mulder," she asked and he did so as she dangled from his neck. "Oh, my God, that feels so good," she said to him as he continued to rub her lower back. "Walk with me, Mulder." He moved around the room with her arms still around his neck and his hands hugging her legs. "I need to sit now," she told him. He helped her to the couch as he went to close the front door. "Open the drapes, Mulder. I want to watch the snow." He went over to the sliding door over the deck and opened the drapes. "Turn out that light," she asked him as she lay back onto the couch. "Oh," she said, "I guess I should change first; can you help me, Mulder?" He was beside her with her nightgown and helping her undress. Her long white cotton gown was on her and he was smoothing her hair down. "Want me to brush your hair for you, red?" he asked her lovingly. "Yeah, that would be nice." She took her brush from her carryall and handed it to him. He started to brush her hair. "Scully, did I ever tell you how much I love your hair?" he asked her. "I mean, the color, the texture, the smell, everything about it," he told her. "I think that was the first thing that I was attracted to when I first saw you standing there in my office so many years ago. That and your blue eyes! God, you were a sight. A real spitfire, I thought." He stopped brushing and gathered her in his arms. "Are you feeling OK? Do I need to get anything else for you, sweetheart? I feel so helpless; I just want to make everything right for you now. There is nothing I would not do for you, Scully," he told her with tears in his eyes. "Ah, Mulder, I love you so much. We are going to be parents shortly. Who would have thought that it would have turned out this way? I mean, after all we have been through and then to be told that I was barren and the failed in vitro and now this! You are going to be a wonderful father," she told him and then started to groan and breathe as another contraction started to overtake her. "Mulder, I need you to check to see how much I have dilated," she told him. He looked at her with a little fear in his eyes. "Grab the latex, Mulder, now." It was a command not a request and he grabbed them out of her medical bag and headed toward her, hands held up as if he were a surgeon going into an operation. "Um, Scully, how will I even know?" he wondered. "I will help you, Mulder. I pretty much know by the pains, pressure and the closeness of the contractions, but I really can't reach, I mean I could, but... She lay back and pulled up her knees up and he lifted her gown above her stomach. She spread her legs apart and he just stood there. "Mulder, I need you to help me out here, are you still with me?" "Uh, yeah, I am still with you, Scully," he mused. "Where else would I be," he asked as he sat down and waited for her instructions. She told him what to do and he did so and she figured that she was about 8 centimeter s along and that she did not have more to go. "How is that water coming along," she wondered in between breaths. I think you can turn the heat off and put it into that basin in the bathroom. Wash the basin first, Mulder, OK?" "K, Scully." He went about his chore thinking about being a father and how different their lives would be after tonight. He looked at the clock; it read 12:29. It was Christmas Eve. "What a wonderful time for you to decide to make an appearance little one," he said out loud. "You were not to arrive until way after the New Year!" He brought the basin into the living room and filled it with the boiling water. He grabbed a cold compress for Scully and wiped her face for her. His hands were on her stomach, hard as a rock, he thought! She seemed to be relaxed, breathing normally and then another contraction started and they rode it out together, he remembering the coaching from their birth classes at the hospital. "Mulder, you are doing fine," she told him as she watched the frown come upon his face. "You remembered everything and I could not do this without you. Relax, everything is going to be OK." He smiled at her again wondering how trusting she was and not in the least fearful to deliver this baby out of a hospital and in normal surroundings. She sensed his questions. "Mulder, really, I am fine. I do not need a hospital. The baby should be born without complications and he should be fine. If there is a problem, well, we will have to deal with it when and if it happens. I don't think there will be any though. Everything seems to be normal so far. Please relax, I need you relaxed and trusting. Start praying, Mulder. God will not fail us now. He has brought us this far and given us this miracle and I believe that we will be holding that miracle in a short time. Ah," she moaned as another contraction started and he told her to start pushing. After much pushing and heavy breathing, the baby crowned and Mulder delivered their son at exactly 1:15 a.m. It was still snowing and the fire still roaring as Scully handed the scissors to Mulder to cut the cord. He did so with tears overflowing his eyes. He lovingly placed their son upon her stomach. "Oh my God, Mulder, look at him," she cried as the baby nestled between her breasts. Mulder was overcome with job as they both cried and watched their son try to latch onto Scully's breast. "He is beautiful," she cried again. "Yes, breathtaking, just like his mother," he whispered into her ear while rubbing the baby's bottom. "I love you, Scully, more than you will ever know. And, I love this little guy, and I promise to never be apart for either of you as long as I can help it. You are my life. I am..." He could not continue. "I know, I know...I love you too, Mulder. My heart has always been with you and this is the fulfillment of that love. Oh, how they tried to stop us, this, but you said to never give up on a miracle and look what God did for us." Scully placed her fingers into his mouth and cleared it out. She rubbed his stomach and Mulder took hold of their son and did as Scully instructed and the baby started wailing! Mulder cleaned him up as he placed him into the blanket and handed him back to Scully. She immediately checked his fingers and toes, counting and then checked the back of his neck, almost fearfully, but in faith then as she rubbed the tiny spot without trying to have Mulder notice, but she knew he was watching her, eying her very carefully and with that look upon his face. He held his breath as did she and when she finally let out a happy sigh, he imitated her and they smiled gloriously at one another! "Mulder, she said, I need to push one more time. There is a little matter of the placenta." Mulder looked at her in a strange manner but positioned himself at the bottom of the couch as Scully delivered the placenta much to Mulder's chagrin! "Yuck," was all that he could muster! He immediately cleaned up Scully and she reveled in the feel of the hot water upon her body! Scully, you are bleeding more than normal, I think you tore something down there. She reached down and felt. It was quite sore but she did not think abnormally so. He washed her hands with the wash cloth and she asked him to hand her the sutures from her medical bag. "Snap on the latex, again, Mulder. I need you to suture me up. This should do for now." "Ah, Scully, do I have to do that?" he whined. "Yes, you do." He carefully took the sutures and did as he was instructed. He then helped her into the bathroom. Mulder placed the baby on the couch and surrounded him with pillows as he helped Scully into the shower. She insisted on taking a shower and he would not allow her in there alone. He left the door open to listen for the baby and he helped her into the tub. "I want to shower, Mulder, not take a bath. I don't want to sit down." "OK," he said as he turned the water on and helped wash her. He grabbed a bath sheet and wrapped her in it and helped her out. "Thanks," she said as she kissed him on the cheek. "Go and check the baby and I will be out in a minute. She did her thing and brushed her hair and teeth and walked back out into the living room to see Mulder cradling their son. She just stopped and took in the sight and it brought tears to her eyes. He was in the rocking chair singing to their son! When he saw her he got up and she walked over to the chair and he helped her sit down. He placed their baby into her arms and he started to fuss. She opened her gown and watched him suckle and latch onto her breast. Mulder thought he died and went to heaven. How could he be so lucky to be sitting in this tableau? It was like a Norman Rockwell painting and he, Scully and the baby were the stars. The snow was still falling but not as heavy. "Mulder, we need some diapers. There are some white sheets in the linen closet. Take the scissors and cut them up. After he finished cutting them up he brought them to her. "Mulder, you are truly amazing. You were right about the sex. This little guy does not know how lucky he is to have you as his daddy. How did you know he was a boy?" He was still in tears. He figured he would get them all out now while they were alone. "I just knew," he said. "What are we gonna call this little man of ours, Scully?" he wanted to know. "William," she whispered into his ear as he moved closer to the rocking chair and knelt beside her, "after YOUR father, Mulder. His name is William." He hung his head and started crying all over again. She closed her gown and lifted the baby over her shoulder. "And," she said, "his middle name is Fox and I don't want to hear another word about it. I need a towel Mulder. Please place it over my shoulder." She burped William and he sounded content. "We need to dress him," she said as she handed the baby to Mulder as she placed a towel on the couch. She took the diapers Mulder made and took the adhesive tape she had in her bag to keep it in place! "This should do nicely," she said as she admired their handiwork! "He needs a shirt, Mulder, how about one of daddy's? You did bring a clean tee with you, right?" she asked him. "Yes, ma'am," he replied as he rose to retrieve it. He came back and handed it to her but she told him to dress his son. He was beaming and the baby was sleeping and Scully was watching with so much love she thought she would burst. The baby was lost in the "T" and she gathered the material at the bottom and tied it to make a sack. She wrapped William in the blanket again and told Mulder to help her into the bedroom. He picked them both up into his arms and carried his wife and their son into the bedroom. He placed them gingerly upon the bed. He went around to the other side and pulled down the covers and helped Scully slide over. She was still cradling William who did not budge. "Scully, is he OK," he queried? Is he supposed to sleep so much? He has hardly stirred; are you sure nothing is wrong?" he asked alarmed. "It is normal for them to sleep as much, Mulder. He is fine. Your son, our son, is fine. He will probably sleep through the night like I intend to," she said as she snuggled under the covers. "I need water, Mulder, lots of water. Can you get the bottles out from under the sink in the kitchen and put them in the fridge and bring one in here, please?" "Sure. Is that all I can get you? You must be famished, Scully, how about an omelet? I can whip one up quickly. I think the eggs should still be good since the last time we were here." "Actually, I would love one. How about putting some of that cheese into it. We don't have any milk, but you can use a little of the bottled water. See what is on the shelves and surprise me," she said as she settled against the headboard, pillow behind her and William still in her arms fast asleep. "Why don't you change and get comfy, Mulder? You must be exhausted yourself." "Oh, you did all the hard work" he told her as he kissed both mother and son and headed into the kitchen. He put several more logs onto the fire and went about to make the omelet. He found some crackers on the shelf and some dried fruit in a tin. Apricots, pineapples, mangoes, apple and banana chips, and some nuts mixed in. He seemed pleased with the repast he had prepared and brought it into Scully on a tray. She had her eyes closed and when she heard him approach she told him that she was not asleep. He took William from her and put him in the middle of the bed with several pillows around him. They both just stared at him for what seemed like an eternity and Mulder told her to eat her eggs or they would not taste too great cold. She complied and thanked him for the food. "Mulder, where did you get all of this stuff? It looks and tastes wonderful," she said as she gobbled up the fruit. This just hits the spot, thank you so much for taking such good care of us," she said as she kissed his cheek which he offered to her. He changed his clothes and went into the bathroom to brush his teeth. Looking into the mirror as he did so he kept remarking to himself about how lucky he was. NO, blessed he said. Scully would not approve of lucky at this point in our lives. She would say BLESSED for which we truly are. He felt tears well up and splashed his face with cold water and returned to his wife and sleeping child. Scully has finished the omelet and was working on the fruit. She had just about finished the bottle of Pelligrino. "Can you help me into the bathroom, Mulder, please?" He did so and sat back down and watched as William stirred but did not awaken. Scully came out and he got up to embrace her. "Mmm, you smell so good, Scully, what did you do?" "Just splashed on some perfume for you, Mulder. I know how sensitive you are to odors and I just wanted to feel fresh for you." They rocked one another back and forth and just reveled in the events of the day, the birth of their son. He helped her back into bed and asked if she needed anything else. "Just your arms around me as I sleep," she replied as she opened her arms to her husband. He went around to slip into bed behind her and spooned against her. Her one arm was around William, the other holding Mulder's hand. They whispered words of love to one another and were asleep in minutes, both being exhausted. The last thing Scully remembered is Mulder telling her how much he loved her and thanking him for the most wonderful Christmas present he ever received. Mulder was the first to awaken as he heard William stir. He changed him and sat on the bed holding him. He still could not believe his eyes at the sight of his wife beside him and their son. He still marveled that it all was real and that they were truly a family! Scully stirred and reached out for them as she opened her eyes. "Mornin, sunshine," he greeted her as he kissed her lightly on her lips. "I have someone here who is going to be very happy that you are awake." "Morning yourself," she replied as she yawned and looked upon her two guys with so much love that Mulder thought he would just melt on the spot. He handed William to Scully and she undid her gown and William hungrily latched onto his source of comfort and nourishment! Mulder was in awe watching mother and child. "You are enjoying this, Scully, I can tell. You are a natural, just the way I knew you would be that day you held Theresa's baby. Do you remember that day?" he asked her. "Yes, I do, Mulder. I just never thought this would happen to me, us. I remember when I, we, lost Emily, I felt so empty. I never thought I would have life in my womb. It was a done deal, no hope. But, you told me to never give up on a miracle and look how God has blessed us. Truly, William is a miracle. "Merry Christmas, Scully, William," he whispered to his family as he patted his son's red hair. "Merry Christmas, daddy," she answered back. "Mulder, he looks so much like you, even with my red hair and blue eyes, he has your nose and your pouty lip! He is going to break a lot of hearts when he grows up." "Hm," he said, as he checked out William's facial expression as he sucked and sucked. "Well, he does have my appetite I will give him that," he joked as she laughed. "I can't wait to be with you again, Mulder," she said as she leaned into him as he drew closer to her wrapping his arms around them. "It seems like such a long time has passed; I know it hasn't, but you know I can never get enough of you," she teased. "All in due time, Scully, all in due time. I feel the same way, but it is bearable now, more than it ever has been for me because I know that we are together and nothing, and I mean nothing, is ever going to separate us again. They both dozed again as she removed William from her breast and held him close to her. He burped once and immediately went back to sleep. "He is going to be a sleeper, Mulder." "I am glad that will be one trait he will not inherit from me, Scully. I hope he never has a sleepless night in his life, ever." "Yeah, and no sleeping on the couch," she laughed. "Well, as long as he sleeps, the couch won't be a problem. I just want him to be strong and happy and fulfilled and I want to spend as much time with him as I possibly can. I want to be there for him, Scully," he promised her. "I don't want to have the relationship I had with my father. I want the kind you had with your father," he told her. "And, Mulder," she replied, "that is my dream for our son also." The sound of the telephone aroused them with William screaming at the top of his lungs. Mulder grabbed the annoying object and answered in his usual tone, "Mulder!" "Fox, dear," came the other voice on the phone which he recognized as Maggie's, "is everything all right? I haven't heard from the two of you, and I called the apartment and the machine picked up. Are Dana and my grandchild ok," she asked somewhat alarmed. "Morning, mom," he greeted her, now awake and excited. Scully stirred and opened her eyes. William was nestled at her breast sucking feverishly and quite contently. "Yes, everything is more than OK. Um, here, let me put Dana on and she can feel you in," he said as he handed the phone to her, holding it against her ear. "Dana, what is going on?" "Oh, Mom," she cried, "Mulder and I delivered William early this morning a little after one. Mom, you should see him. He has my hair and eyes and Mulder's nose and mouth. He is SO beautiful, Mom, and I am SO happy," she said as the tears started again and she began crying and could not stop. She tried to control herself as to not frighten the baby and Mulder comforted her as he took the phone. "Mom, everything is normal and Dana is fine. She told me what to do and I have been taking good care of them," he told Maggie. "You would be proud of me." "Oh, Fox, I am, I am proud of you and I know how much you love my daughter and now your son. Oh, dear," she expressed as she started to cry now. "OK, ok, I just wanted to make sure that everything was OK. When are you bringing them back to town? They should be checked at the hospital, Fox, dear." "Soon, mom. After we get dressed I will check the roads and will head back into the city. Don't worry though, they are fine and I will drive slowly. I will take her straight to Georgetown Hospital and call you from there. You can come over to meet us. How much snow did you guys get down there?" "A couple of inches but the roads are all cleared now. I just had the news on. All right then, give Dana and the baby a big kiss from Grandma and please drive safely, Fox. I can't wait to see all of you," she said as she said goodbye and hung up. "She is going to be so happy when she sees him, Mulder," Scully told him. Wait until she sees his hair and these eyes." "Yeah," he replied as he touched William's hair and rubbed his cheek as he still nursed. "Does he ever come up for air, Scully," he laughed. "This little guy is a greedy one, just like his daddy," he joked. Scully laughed at the thought of Mulder at her breast! "Don't go there, Mulder," she said. "Hormones are raging now and, well, just don't even kid right now. This is quite normal. William is just doing what comes naturally and it is good for me because as he nurses everything inside of me gets back into shape. It is a plus all the way around and God was very creative in making his children the way that he did," she told him! "Everything in perfect order, everything natural and all things in perfect working condition. Mother and son doing what comes naturally," she said as she kissed his waiting mouth which was so close to hers. William stirred and she placed him over her shoulder again as Mulder placed the towel there. "What say I get my little family dressed and we head back into town, sweetheart? We have a lot of people who want to meet the little guy and we have a holiday to celebrate. We should call the skin man also. He will be overjoyed. No to mention uncles Melvin and the crew!" "OK. I am eager to get back, but I must tell you, Mulder, that I have enjoyed this time alone up here with just you and the baby. This will be our little retreat. I am so happy that things turned out the way that they did for us. God has been good. William is perfect and you were here to deliver him. What more could I possibly ask for?" she said as she cried and rested her head on his chest. "Only to be safe and together forever," he replied to her. "Merry Christmas, Scully. I love you. Today and forever," he said. "I love you, Mulder. Words will never be adequate to express my love so I guess I will just have to continually show you since I know you are a show me guy. Merry Christmas, daddy, and thank YOU for the most special present that I could ever receive." Mulder checked out the window and told her that the snow had stopped. He opened the front door and could hear traffic nearby and figured that the roads were open and clear of snow. He made sure the fire was out and cleared the things out of the living room, placing dishes in the sink and disposed of the garbage out the back door. "Leave the dishes," she said. "We will be back soon. How about coming up here for New Year's?" she asked him. "Sounds like a plan to me," he said as he took William from her. "Wish that we had a car seat for him. Ah, Scully, we did not get the tree," he told her in a sad voice. "Not to worry, Mulder. We are leaving with much more than a Christmas tree." Little did they both know that Maggie was on the phone after talking to them and spoke to the lone gunmen who promptly went out and located a Christmas tree for them as they, with Maggie's help, decorated their apartment for their return! Maggie was also busily getting the things Dana had purchased for the baby out and into the nursery they had started to set up. With the help from the guys the apartment was all set for their return. Maggie even prepared several meals and refrigerated them. Their would be no reason for them to leave the apartment. Mulder helped Scully into the car as he gently took the seat belt and strapped them in. The look in his eyes made her melt. They were off heading back into the city. It started to snow lightly and the sun broke out making for a glorious morning! She could not help but to cry as she looked across to Mulder and to their sleeping son in her arms. She looked upward and thanked God for her miracle as she touched Mulder's hand which was on her lap. "We did it," he whispered in love to her. "We are a family." "Yes," was all she said. ~Fin~ Feedback to MulderLuvScully7@aol.com Thanks for reading~
