Title: Trouver L'Amour un Jour de Fete: Saint-Patrick Summary: St. Pat's day story Dedicated to Kelly P. "Morning, Scully, happy Saint Patrick's Day," Mulder greeted pleasantly, straining to hear his partner's answer on the other end of the phone. "Hi, Mulder...Sarah, go fetch the blue and the yellow food coloring from the cupboard," Dana said, obviously looking after Sarah at the same time, "Mulder is your phone battery OK?" "No, actually, I gotta recharge it." "Smart boy. And Happy Canberra Day." "Canberra Day?" "Yup, Canberra Day. It's the capitol of Australia, and it's Canberra Day, it says so on Sarah's Looney Toons calendar." "Looney Toons?" Dana could just see him smile on the other end of the line, and God, it was a beautiful one. "Yeah, I'm at Chris' and looking after Sarah and Sarah's friend, Kris." "Another kid?" "Yeah, she's real sweet, except together, they spell disaster....Thank you, Sarah, now drip this into the batter and mix it up..." Dana instructed while Fox listened with an amused grin. "Mix it up?" "St. Patrick's day cookies. If it's one thing both of them love, besides ransacking Chris' clothes, it's cooking," Dana spoke into her own cell phone and was trying to make some sandwiches for Sarah and Kris to eat after they finished with their cookies. "They're going to be green and in the shape of a four-leaf clover." "Oh...So, what are you going to do today?" Fox asked cautiously. "Well, after lunch and after the cookies are finished, I promised them that we'd go to the park and after that, I told them that they could rent 'Oliver and Company' and 'The Aristocats'. I'm staying with them the whole day...did you have anything planned?" she asked while trying to get the peanut butter out of the jar and talk on the phone at the same time. "Uh, no...I'm just planning to do...stuff." "Stuff?" "Yeah." "Sarah, Kris! Stay away from those clothes! Chris'll kill me if you get flour all over them!" Mulder heard Dana yell at the two girls through his phone. "But Aunt Dana! We wanted to try on the pink dress! Yeah!" the voices of two girls came through the phone, "No! Your mom already told me to NOT let you guys go through her clothes...Too late, Aunt Dana! Uh-oh! AGGHHHHH! Mommy's gonna kill us!" The melodrama of two girls and a babysitter came through loud and clear to Mulder and he was having a very hard time not to start laughing. "Hi, Mulder, I gotta go! Sarah and Kris just spilled green flour on Chris' dress! Bye!" She hung up quickly leaving Mulder stunned and staring at the phone by her rapid good bye. After a minute or so gawking, he smiled, shook his head and headed out the door, grabbing his coat on the way out. "This one is very beautiful, it has a wonderful cut..." The saleslady droned on and on while Mulder examined each different display carefully. Yellow, pink, blue, white...what? 14, 24...sigh...ooh, that one's pretty, it's perfect...almost. No, that's not the one I should get. Thin, thick, medium...thick, no, too heavy...thin? Maybe. Simple or more intricate? Braided? Smooth? Shiny, or no? Rounded? Smallish, yeah. No, flat? Ummm...How much is this?!...Tanzanite? what the hell is that?!...Multicolored...I only see three different shades of brown, oh wait, there's a purple...and a red...ooh, blue. Hmm...it's lighter from the underside...HOW MUCH?! Groan...no...it was too big anyhow. One big one or a bunch of small ones? Or a combination? Classic? She calls *that* classic? It's...not what I'd call classic. Wait, hang on...the light pinkish tinted one... Small, simple, and elegant...it's not that pink...probably better that it isn't. Red, color of love, pink, color of...what is it the color of? Nicely cut? I still don't really get what she means by 'nicely cut'... I don't see it...why do salespeople always ask you to see something when they know very well that you don't know what they are talking about? This is it... "Miss, I'll buy that ring," Mulder pointed to a small band of gold with a small pink diamond with tiny diamonds surrounding it. All together, the precious stones were not that big at all but quite small and not as inconspicuous as a ring could be. It would fit perfectly around her finger...a symbol of their bond...Only a symbol. He knew that their bond was a hundredth-fold stronger than any circlet of gold. Now, if only his bank account was as strong... End OK, a little bit on the short and dumb side but oh well!
