Title: Mixed Emotions Dana Scully Residence "Ms. Scully?" asked the voice on the phone. "Yes?" replied Scully. "Ms. Scully, this is Dr. Tomlin's office and we have your test results back," "What's wrong? Is the cancer back?" asked Scully with some concern in her voice. "Nothing is wrong Ms. Scully," chuckled the voice," The reason you've been sick for 2 months is because you're pregnant!" "Pregnant!" stumbled Scully. Scully couldn't even remember the last time she had even had a date, much less sex. She felt for the nearest chair and sat down in it afraid she would collapse. And anways, all of her ovum had been removed by *them* years ago when Duane Barry had exchanged her for himself on Skyland Mountain. There was no way that Dana Katherine Scully could be pregnant. "I'm sorry, you must be mistaken," replied Scully. "Ms. Scully, I am afraid there is no mistake, I know, the doctor cannot explain it, considering your medical condition, I would consider yourself very lucky Ms. Scully, the doctor would like to schedule an appointment with you for as soon as possible to have a sonogram of your baby and some further tests to make sure the developement is going fine, I'll call back later with an opening , congratulations, Ms. Scully," said the voice. "Thank you," said Scully in a quaky voice with unshed tears in her eyes as she set the phone back down on the cradle. Oh my God! How could I be pregnant? What was I doing 2 months ago? 2 months ago Mulder and I were in Antartica and... no couldn't be she thought. Mulder! What am I going to tell him? I am supposed to be overjoyed or ashamed? One thing was for sure, she was scared. October 14, 1998 "Well, you and the baby both look great," said Dr. Tomlin happily. Scully gently put her hand on the slight hump in her stomach before pulling her shirt down and putting her blazer jacket on. "Thank you," replied Scully," I'll see you in 2 months then," "See you then," called Dr. Tomlin as Scully left the office. " Sorry I'm late Mulder, I had an appointment," said Scully as she quickly gathered up the paraphenalia on the back table. " S'ok Scully, I just dug up this interesting case, three women in Tuscon were mysteriously impregnated and then when they came to full term, the babies were taken, just as mysteriously as they had come." Scully stopped dead in her steps, unshed tears in her eyes, her hands protectively touched her stomach and stared into space. "Scully, are you ok?" asked Mulder. "I'm fine Mulder,"Scully replied, knowing Mulder didn't buy the act. "Are you sure?" Mulder questioned, getting out of his chair and putting a hand on her shoulder. "Yeah," Scully said, forcing a smile. "Ok then," replied Mulder, removing his hand. November 9, 1998 I can't hide this anymore, Scully thought to herself as she was looking at her profile in her full length mirror and rubbed her growing belly. How the heck did I even get pregnant in the first place? It couldn't have been the extraterestrial virus I was infected with 5 months ago, but that is how many months pregnant I am. No, never, I am starting to sound like Mulder now. Must be the hormones. November 10, 1998 Mulder sat on his couch watching TV when he was interrupted by someone knocking at the door. "One second!" Mulder shouted as he turned off the TV and got up off of the couch. Mulder looked through the peek hole to find Scully at the other side, waiting impatiently for him to open the door. "Hey Scully!" Mulder greeted her as he opened the door. "Hi Mulder, can I ummm come in?" Scully asked, she was still dressed in her outfit from work, the blazer was still buttoned up, except she was wearing a pair of sneakers, which made her look very unprofessional. "Yes," Mulder said as he stepped aside, "What's up?" "Mulder, I have to talk to you," Scully said shakily. "What about?" Mulder inquired, as he walked over to the couch and motioned Scully to sit down on it with him. "Mulder, I...I," Scully started, quavering even more now. "What, Scully?" Mulder asked sincerely, getting a little bit straighter and turned towards her a little more. "I'm... I am pregnant," Scully stated, feeling relieved that she had told someone. "Oh, Scully," Mulder said, flaberghasted. I hope she didn't do something stupid. No, Scully is a sensible, intelligent woman he thought and figured he would let her do the explaining. "How do you feel about this?" Scully was relieved that he didn't ask about the nature of the pregnancy. "I know that I don't want anything to happen to my baby and that I want to keep it," Scully said, tears starting to drip down her cheek. Mulder got as close as he could to Scully on the couch and wrapped his arms around her. "I want you to know Scully, whatever you decide to do, I will support your decisions, and be there if you need me," Mulder said, still embracing her small figure, and could clearly feel the baby growing inside his partner kicking him. Scully smiled at the weird look on Mulder's face, as she knew he could also feel the baby. "Thank you Mulder," said Scully, as she wrapped her arms around his waist, picked up his hand in hers, brought it up to her mouth and kissed it gently. "When are you due?" Mulder asked. "End of February, beginning of March" Scully answered meekly, ashamed that she hadn't now told Mulder sooner. "You have kept it from me that long?" Mulder asked, not angry, just disapointed that she hadn't told her sooner. "I was afraid, I guess, I didn't know how you would react," Scully said sheepishly. "Oh, Scully did you think I would be mad at you?" Mulder asked caringly. "I didn't know," Scully replied. "Mulder, can't hide it anymore," Scully whispered. "Did you notice?" "I thought you were getting a little fuller, but I wasn't going to say anything, I never imagined you were pregnant," Mulder confessed. "What will I tell Skinner?" Scully asked. "How much longer do you think you could keep it from him?" Mulder asked. "Not very long, Mulder," Scully said as she stood up and removed her blazer jacket and revealed her swollen belly that shocked Mulder. "I know, I am getting big, but it what's to be expected," Scully said, feeling Mulder's eyes on her midrift. "We will have to tell Skinner the truth," Mulder replied, and Scully noticed that he used "we" instead of "you". Children's Hospital of Washington "Hello, Dana, how have you been," inquired Dr. Tomlin. "I'm doing very good, a little tired though," Scully replied. "That's normal, don't worry, now why don't we have a look?" said Dr. Tomlin as Scully unbuttoned her shirt to reveal her now very pregnant looking stomach. "You seem a little on the big side for how far along in the pregnancy you are, but that is normal considering you have a small figure," Dr. Tomlin stated "Let me get the ultrasound ready," "There is the baby's head, and it's body and......oh," Dr Tomlin said with some concern in his voice as he pointed to the ultrasound. "What? What's the matter with my baby?" Scully said very frightened. "I'm not sure yet. It could just be the placenta," Dr. Tomlin replied. "But what if it's not the placenta?" Dana questioned. "It could be a tumor or spinal bifida," Dr. Tomlin said grimly."I will have to run some further tests to find out, the results will be back in less than a week, and then we can discuss options later, but it could be nothing also, Dana," "Ok. I just want what's best for my baby," Scully responded with a quiver in her voice. When Scully got out to her car after the tests, she broke down and sat in the driver's seat crying. I wish Mulder were here, she thought. I want Mulder to kiss my forehead and take me into his arms and tell me everything is going to be ok. That night, Scully sat up in bed with some effort. The clock read 2:18 a.m. Her eyes were puffy and red from crying. She picked up the phone, dialed Mulder's number and then hung up before he answered. Mulder's Apartment December 23 2:36 a.m. Scully knocked twice lightly on Mulder's door and then got out her key marked Mulder and opened his door. "Hello, Mulder are you home?" Scully whispered and then she heard a faint snore coming from his bedroom and walked in. Mulder woke up at the sound of footsteps in his bedroom. "Who's there?" He inquired. "Mulder it's me," Scully said, starting to sob again. Mulder got out of bed and put his arms around her to try and console her. "What's wrong, Scully?" Mulder asked. "The ultrasound showed there is a mass on my baby's back," Scully said between sobs. "Oh, Scully I'm so sorry, are they sure?" Mulder asked. "The test results come back next week. I'm sorry to come over so late and bother you, I just.. I needed someone to talk to," Scully said sniffling,"I'm sorry, it must be the hormones,"Scully replied, trying to explain for her crying. "Scully, it's no bother, you can call me anytime,"Mulder replied and put a piece of Scully's hair that had fallen onto her forehead behind her ear."It's ok, I know you are scared, I am too,"Mulder confided. Scully put her arms around his neck and nuzzled her head into his chest. "I'm here for you, Scully, If you ever need anything, anything at all, you can call me," Mulder replied, even though he knew Scully liked to be independent. "Thank you, Mulder," Scully replied gratefully. December 24, 1998 FBI Headquarters "Good morning, Scully,"Mulder said cheerfully as Scully entered their basement office, looking beat down. "Those party poopers upstairs making us work on Christmas Eve are no fun huh?" "Yeah," Scully replied without concern with tiredness in her voice. "How are you-" Mulder started but Scully cut him off. "Can you please not talk, Mulder?" Scully said as nicely as she could. "Do you want to go home?" Mulder asked, kindly. "Please, Mulder, I know your intentions are good, but I am fine," Scully said with strain in her voice. They worked to almost 11 o clock in silence when Scully closed her laptop and rest her head and closed her eyes on the desk. Mulder watched Scully sleep until the phone rang a few minutes later. "Hey Scully, long night?" Mulder asked as he gently shook her shoulder. "Huh what?" Scully inquired groggily as she shot her head up. "I asked how much sleep you got last night," Mulder said again. "Oh, I don't know a few hours, maybe," Scully replied, even though she hadn't fallen asleep for 10 minutes that night and Mulder knew that too. "Skinner just called us up for a review meeting with the board, Merry Christmas, Scully," Mulder said sarcastically. "Great!" Scully said sarcastically as she pulled herself up from her desk chair and winced her eyes in pain, let out a barely audible moan, which Mulder did hear, and used her desk to support herself , wishing imediately after that she would have kept it in. "Are you ok?" Mulder said a little frantically and reached over and steadied her. "Just surprised me, that's all," Scully said as she tried to regain her composure. "Scully, I really think that you should take time off of work," Mulder said with deep concern in his voice. "dammit Mulder! How many time do I keep having to tell you I am fine?" Scully screamed at him, grabbed her briefcase and quickly walked out of the office and into the elevator as Mulder grabbed his briefcase also, locked the door, not even bothering to turn the lights off and ran up the stairs by twos until he got to the floor Skinner's office was on. Mulder ran through the hallways until he got to Skinner's office and he saw Scully standing in the hall red eyed. "Don't even say anything," Scully warned as Skinner's secretary called them both in. "Agents Mulder and Scully, thank you for coming on such short notice," Skinner said as Scully shot Mulder a warning glance as they sat down next to each other. "The reason I have called this meeting is to reassign the two of you," Skinner went on. "Scully, you will be transferred back to Quantico to fill a teaching job, and Mulder, you will be transferred to the high profile crimes unit. Keep in mind that this is temporary Agents, just until we can get things straightened out with Agent Scully," Skinner replied. Skinner went on for another half hour and Mulder kept a careful watch on his partner sitting next to him. Scully looked terribly uncomfortable sitting in the office chair and he noticed a couple times that her hands would rub her stomach and she would draw in a slow breath of air and that she fidgeted the whole time. Mulder wanted so badly to take her nto his arms and make all of her pain go away. Once the meeting was over, Mulder walked quickly to catch up with Scully in the elevator. "Don't say anything, Mulder" Scully said in a mean tone. "Scully-" Mulder started but was cut of by his raging partner. "I do not want to hear it!" Scully shouted and exited the elevator as quickly as she could. Mulder easily caught up with Scully's pregnant waddle and he unlocked and held open the door for Scully, who began to throw all of her belongings into a box. "Scully, before I get slapped, let me just tell you one thing," Mulder started as Scully threw a book at him from across the room. "I want to say that you are the strongest person I know and that even though you don't like it, you should let people help you out once in a while," Mulder commented sincerely as another book came flying towards him. "Mulder just shut the hell up!" Scully screamed and turned around and started to cry silently. Mulder cautiously walked up behind Scully. "Scully, please," Mulder said quietly and gently placed his hands on her shoulders. "Oh God, Mulder," Scully whispered. "I'm sorry, I have just been really tense because of the baby." "It's ok, Scully, if the doctor didn't call back yet, that must mean there is no bad news," Mulder said caringly. "I just... I just need to prove to my mother, my brother, and you, Mulder, that I don't need someone over my shoulder watching out for me," Scully confessed. "Scully, you know you don't need to prove anything to anyone to make them think any less of you,"Mulder said as he rubbed Scully's back and shoulders, with Scully's back still to him. "I just feel that I don't live up to what you want me to be," Scully confided. " I don't live up to my brother Bill's standards. every time I talk to him he tells me to go out and get married. My mom acts as if she is ok with my pregnancy, but deep down inside, I know she isn't," "Oh, Scully, you are an incredible woman, you know that I do not have standards for you, I am here for you and your pregnancy doesn't make me think any less of you" Mulder said sincerely. "I know that," Scully said with a tight face to attempt to keep her self from crying. "I just think that you are dissapointed in me, I mean look at me, I'm 34 years old, I have never had a serious relationship and I am pregnant," Scully said, not able to hold back the tears. Before Mulder could give an answer, Scully's cell phone rang at her desk. Scully wiped her eyes and pulled herself back together before answering. "Scully," sheanswered the phone. "Ms. Scully, this is Dr. Tomlin's office calling," The receptionist said. Scully immediately stiffened. "Did the test results come back?" Scully asked with concern and fear in her voice as her hand came instinctivly to her stomach and Mulder knew exactly who was on the other end and he held his breath. "Yes, they did Ms. Scully, I'm happy to say it isn't anything and your appointment will be as schedueled on next Thursday," The receptionist replied on the phone. Scully let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you," Scully said with a smile on her face. "Goodbye and I'm very happy for you," The receptionist replied. "Thank you, goodbye," Scully said happily. Mulder waited for Scully to talk first. "My baby is fine!" Scully said excitedly. "That is great news, Scully," Mulder said with a smile on his face and went over to Scully and gave her a hug. "What do you say we go home early and then you and I go and get something to eat?" Mulder inquired. After a few seconds, Scully replied. "Yeah, sure it sounds like fun," Scully said with a smile. February 25 11:43 a.m. Scully was sitting on the floor in the nursery in her apartment going through all of the baby clothes and accessories. Scully couldn't believe that she was going to be a mother again, after Emily, and Scully was sure she wasn't going to let anything happen to her baby. After sitting there for over an hour, the phone rang, and Scully pulled herself up with some effort and picked up the phone before it rang 5 times. "Hello," sheanswered. "Hey, Scully," Mulder replied on the other end of the phone. "Hi Mulder! What's up?" Scully questioned. "Well, I was just sitting here with my temporary partner, and I was wondering if you felt like it, if you wanted to go and grab some lunch with me," Mulder offered. "Sure, sounds like fun," Scully replied, greatful that Mulder called. "Then I will pick you in 10 minutes?" Mulder asked. "Sure, see you then," Scully replied. Ten minutes later, Mulder was knocking on Scully's door and she finally came to it. Mulder hadn't seen Scully in over a month and he was shocked at how much she changed. Her breasts and stomach were noticably larger, she looked extremely tired and her face looked a little puffy, but never-the-less, Scully looked cute in her navy blue jumper with the white blouse under it and navy blue stockings and shoes. "Let me just grab my coat," Scully said as she invited Mulder in and went into her bedroom to get her coat. Once she returned, Mulder took the coat from he rand held it out for Scully and she put her arms into it and put it on. "Thanks," Scully replied. "No problem," Mulder said as he held open the door for Scully and shut and locked it behind him. "So, where are we going?" Scully asked once they were in the car. "It's a surprise," Mulder responded. "So, how's your new partner?" Scully inquired. "Dan Kilmer? Oh, he's ok," Mulder said without interest. "What's the matter with him?" Scully asked, reading Mulder's mind. "He's just not you, I have to admit, he's nowhere as cute as you," Mulder joked. "Are you going to be coming back to the X-Files?" "Yes, of course, just as soon as I get everything settled," Scully said truthfully. "I miss you," Mulder confessed. "I miss working with you too, Mulder, but you know Skinner wouldn't let me continue working there for now," Scully replied. "Scully, I wasn't suggesting you come back to work now, I don't want to put you, or your baby, into any danger," Mulder said sincerely. "Mulder, what if I am already?" Scully asked with a hint of fear in her voice. "I am not going to let anything else happen to you, or your baby," Mulder said as he placed a gentle hand on her thigh. "Mulder, how did I get pregnant?" Scully asked, fighting tears. "I don't know, Scully," Mulder confessed as he gently rubbed her thigh. "I can't have children," Scully stated. "I know," Mulder replied. "You don't think that when I was in Antarctica..." Scully trailed off. "I don't know, Scully," Mulder replied sincerely. "You know I wasn't envolved with anyone," Scully stumbled. " I know," Mulder said caringly. "What... what am I going to tell my baby?" Scully said, with a tear falling down her cheek. "We will find out the truth," Mulder stated with confidence. "I... I don't know if I want to know the truth," Scully said, with more tears slipping down. Mulder took his hand off of Scully's thigh and put it lightly on her stomach. "Don't worry, you are going to have a beautiful, intelligent baby and you are going to make a great mother," Mulder said truthfully. "Thank you, Mulder," Scully said with a genuine smile on her face and she placed her hand on top of his that was still on her stomach. February 28 1:39 a.m. Mulder's apartment Ring ring! Mulder woke up to the sound of his phone ringing as he picked it up off the coffee table next to the couch. "Mulder," he replied still asleep. "Mulder, it's me, Scully," Scully replied with some shaking in her voice. "What's the matter?" Mulder asked, now fully awake with concern in his voice. "Can you meet me at the hospital?" Scully asked. "Sure, I will be right there," Mulder said he got up off the couch. "Ok, thank you, I am in room 563," Scully replied "Well, Scully, I have to go for right now, I will be there soon, hang in there,"Mulder said sincerely. - February 28 2:07 a.m. Children's Hospital of Washington "Hey Scully," Mulder said gently as he entered into the hospital room and walked over to Scully sitting in the big chair by the window and kissed Scully gently on her cheek. "Hi," Scully said with a weak smile as she pulled herself up out of the chair with effort. "How are you doing?" Mulder asked cautiously trying not to get Scully upset. "Ok," Scully said meekly. "Thanks for coming, my mother is out of town and I just wanted someone to be here with me," Scully said, hoping Mulder didn't think she was weak. "It's no problem, Scully," Mulder said gently as a contraction hit Scully and she leaned for the nearest object, which happened to be Mulder, to support herself on. Scully put her arms up around Mulder's neck, bent her head down into his chest, leaned into him and started to slowly rock from side to side to help get the baby's head down. Mulder in return started to rub Scully's back and rocked with Scully until the contraction subsided and Scully let go of Mulder. The bond shared between Mulder and Scully was so strong that neither one had to say anything. Scully knew that Mulder was going to be there for her and Mulder knew that Scully wanted and needed him there, even if she wouldn't admit it. "I'm going to get some coffee, do you want anything?" Mulder asked. "No, thanks though," Scully said as she carefully sat down in the chair. "Ok, I will be right back," Mulder said as he opened the door and left. "Excuse me," Mulder said to a passing nurse in the hall," How far is Dana Scully?" Mulder inquired. "She is moving along pretty fast, she is 6 cm dilated right now, by this time most women without medication are screaming their heads off, she is a strong woman," The nurse replied. "Yes, she is," Mulder responded, not surprised that Scully had refused the pain medication. Five minutes later, Mulder returned with a styrofoam cup of coffee from the cafeteria. "You doing ok?" Mulder asked Scully. "Yeah," shereplied, sounding tired and drained before her face became pinched and it was obvious to Mulder that she was having another contraction. Mulder put down his coffee, walked over to Scully sitting hunched over in the chair and started to rub her back. " It's ok, It will be over soon," Mulder whispered gently and Scully responded by letting out a wince. Once the contraction was over, Scully started to pull herself out of the chair and Mulder helped her up. "They are better standing," Scully said, reffering to the contractions. "Do you want to come for a walk in the halls with me?" Scully asked. "Of course," Mulder replied and held open the door for Scully. Halfway down the hall, another contraction hit Scully. Scully turned and faced Mulder, and without hesitation, put her arms around his waist, bent her head into his chest, leaned into him, began to slowly rock from side to side again and she let out a low moan. Mulder kissed the top of her head, rocked with her and rubbed Scully's back again. "It's ok, Scully, it's ok," Mulder repeated soothingly. The contraction was longer and more intese than all of the rest, Mulder could tell. Once it was finally over, Scully was still holding on to Mulder, and she looked up at him. "I want to go back to the room," Scully said, sounding a little scared and she was shaking. "Ok," Mulder replied and put his arm around Scully as they started to walk slowly back towards Scully's hospital room. "Scully are you alright?" Mulder asked once they got back in the room. "Mulder...I'm scared," Scully whispered. "I know, It's going to be alright though," Mulder replied confidently. "Thank you Mulder," Scully said with a small smile. "Come here," Mulder motioned to the chair in which he was sitting and pulled Scully gently into his lap. "Thank you for everything," Scully whispered into his chest and rest her head against his chest. "Oh," Scully whispered painfully after a couple minutes. "Do you want to get up?" Mulder asked from under her. She responded by shaking her head no. "Ok," Mulder said into her hair and kissed the top of her head. "Excuse me," A nurse said sternly from the door. "Sir could you leave for a minute I have to check her," "I'll be right outside," Mulder said as they started to get up. Scully took his hand and Mulder squeezed it gently and gave her an encouraging smile. "Don't go too far," Scully whispered as he left. "Well, Dana," the nurse said after she examined her. "You are complete it's time to start pushing," the nurse replied as she got Scully set up. "Could you ask Mulder to come back in here please?" Scully asked painfully. "Sure," The nurse responded. "Hey Scully," Mulder said gently when he returned into the room and Scully couldn't help but give a small smile because she was relieved to have him with her. "Could you come over here?" Scully asked sheepishly. Mulder immediately walked over to Scully as another contraction hit her. Scully reached for Mulder's hand and Mulder took her hand in his. Scully imediately squeezed Mulder's hand until he almost needed some pain medication. "Hello, Dana," Dr. Tomlin said as he walked into the room. "Hello, Dr. Tomlin, this is my very good friend, Mulder," Scully said painfully. "Hello, Mulder," Dr. Tomlin replied. "Dana, we are going to push on this next one, do you want Mulder to be in here?" Dr. Tomlin asked. "Yes," Scully replied without hesitation. "Ok then, Mulder, when she is pushing, I want you to support her head and hold her leg in place," Dr. Tomlin instructed. "Ok," Mulder said with a nod. "Ok here it comes," Dr. Tomlin stated. Scully lifted up her head, took a deep breath, and Mulder put his strong arm under her head and he also put his other hand on top of her knee. "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10," Dr, Tomlin counted slowly. "Ok good, relax," he said as Scully let out an exasperating sigh and she fell back onto the pillow and Mulder put a piece of hair behind her ear. This went on for another hour. Scully would push a couple times on every contraction and Mulder would support her head and give her encouraging comments. Between the contractions, Mulder would rub her arm, cheek or stomach and tell Scully how good she was doing and encourage her. "Ok I see the head," Said Dr. Tomlin, "Stop pushing for a minute." "I can't do this anymore," Scully said exasperated. "You're doing so good. It's almost over," Mulder encouraged her. "Ok, Dana give me a little push," Dr. Tomlin said as the baby's head came out. "Ow ow ow ow!" Scully screamed as the baby's shoulders came out. Mulder winced inwardly. "One more tiny push, Dana," The doctor said. Scully gave one more push with all of her energy she had left and the baby came out. "You have a beautiful baby girl, born at 5:38 a.m. on February 28, 1999," Dr. Tomlin annouced as he suctioned the baby's nose and mouth and placed the baby on Scully's stomach. "Oh my God! My baby!" Scully cried. "Oh, Scully, she's perfect," Mulder exclaimed. "I need to take the baby for know," The nurse said caringly. "Can Mulder cut the cord?" Scully requested. "Sure," The nurse said. "Do you want to?" Scully asked. "I'd be honored," Mulder replied. After Mulder cut the cord and the baby was taken to be checked out and weighed, he went over to Scully. "Congratulations, Scully," Mulder exclaimed. "Thank you so much, Mulder," Scully replied. "Hey, you are the one that did all of that work," Mulder commented. "Go home Mulder, get some rest," Scully suggested. "Are you sure?" Mulder asked. "Yes, I will be fine," Scully commented. "Ok, call me if you need anything, I will come up later," Mulder replied as he kiss Scully gently on her cheek. After Mulder left the room, Scully called the nurse back in. "Excuse me, Miss," Scully requested. "Could you order a paternity test on my baby and match it against the national database?" "Sure, the results will be back in the morning," the nurse responded. "Do you have a name picked out for the baby yet?" The nurse asked. "Yes, I do, Molly Samantha Scully," Scully replied. "That is a very pretty name," The nurse commented. After the nurse left, Scully fell into a well deserved and needed sleep. Children's Hospital of Washington 9:30 a.m. March 1, 1999 "Miss Scully?" A nurse asked as she walked into the room. "Yes?" Scully asked, sitting up in bed holding Molly. "I have the results of the paternity test on Molly," The nurse replied. "What are the results?" Scully asked sitting up a little straighter. "It is 100% sure that the father of Molly is one Fox William Mulder," The nurse stated. Scully was dumbfounded. "Oh my God! Are you sure?" Scully inquired. "Yes, 100%," The nurse responded. "Could you put his name on the birth certificate for me?" Scully requested. "Sure," The nurse said as she left the room. "Molly let me tell you all about your daddy," Scully said, looking caringly at her baby. Children's Hospital of Washington 11:29 a.m March 1, 1999 "Hey Scully, how are you doing?" Mulder said as he entered the hospital room, approached Scully and kissed her cheek. "Good, thanks," Scully replied. "These are for you," Mulder responded and placed a vase full of pink roses on the nightstand next to the bed. "Thank you, Mulder they are beautiful," Scully replied. "Mulder, there is something I have to tell you," Scully said solemly. "What?" Mulder said with some concern in his voice and he sat on the edge of Scully's bed, facing Scully and taking her hand in his. "I only think that it is fair for you to know this. I had a paternity test performed after you left yesterday. I would like my daughter to know who her father is and what he is like, but that is up to you. Mulder, you are the father," Scully stated sincerely. "What?" Mulder exclaimed dumbstruck. "You don't have to pay any child support or be involved with her upbringing at all, if you don't want to" Scully said, afraid Mulder would be mad. "No, no Scully, I want to do those things, if you will let me be a part of my daughter's life. Our daughter's," Mulder replied. "Mulder, there is no one I want more to be my baby's father," Scully said with a smile on her face and gave Mulder's hand a gentle squeeze. "We have to find out who did this," Mulder said with some anger in his voice. "I think we both have a pretty good idea," Scully replied. "Scully, we have both been violated," Mulder said angerily. "Mulder, isn't there some other time we can discuss this?" Scully asked. "No, Scully, I think we need to address this now," Mulder said, the rage growing inside of him. "Mulder, I was told I couldn't have children and now, I have a beautiful baby girl that I love with all of my heart," Scully replied, getting angry with Mulder. "Scully, how do you know that she won't be like Emily? How do you know that Molly won't be sick too?" Mulder argued. "Mulder, how come you weren't this angry when you found about how I was harvested? Why do you only get angry when this affects you personally? It doesn't matter to you unless it has to do directly with you!" Scully inquired angrily with tears of anger streaming down her face. "Scully, it isn't like that!" Mulder defended himself. "Yes, Mulder it is. You are a self-centered ego maniac caring only about yourself and your self-centered quest for the truth!" Scully screamed. "Scully.." Mulder started but was cut off by Scully. "I don't want to have to deal with you right now, get out," Scully ordered. "Bye" Mulder said coldly and left. Scully sat and cried silently for over an hour. "Miss Scully?" A nurse said as she walked in to her room after Scully stopped crying. "Yes?" Scully replied. "It's time to check out." The nurse stated and she brought in Molly. "Ok, I have a change of clothes in my bag, I will be right back," Scully replied as she slowly got out of her bed and headed for the bathroom. "Miss Scully, do you have someone to pick you up?" The nurse asked while Scully was changing. "Could you please call me a cab?" Scully requested. "Sure," The nurse replied. "Thank you," Scully responded. "Well Molly, this is our home," Scully said as she took Molly out of her baby carrier. "Here is the living room, the kitchen, this will be your bedroom when you get a little bigger, and this is my bedroom and where you will be sleeping for now," Scully said, giving the baby a tour of their house. Scully got out a photo album from inside her closet and sat down on the couch with Molly and the album in her lap. "This is your grandmother, and your grandfather, who isn't here to see you," Scully said pointing to a picture of her parents. "This is your Uncle Charlie and your Aunt Melissa, who isn't here either. This is your Uncle Bill, and his wife, your Aunt Tara, and their son, your cousin Matthew. This is a picture of me when I was 20, and here is a picture of me, when you were in my tummy." Which was a picture Mulder had taken at Christmas. "And this is a picture of your Daddy," Scully pointed out reffering to a picture of Mulder that she had taken 2 years ago. "I know that you are going to love them all, like I do," Scully said as she kissed the top of Molly's head. "Even if they do get on your nerves sometimes."
