Agent Laralie Crane headed down to what used to be known as the X-Files Division, but had for over twenty years been a long abandon room, full of memories no one wanted to remember, of people the Bureau had since forgotten and very happily so. She couldn't help but shudder as she approached the door; the whole office seemed to have living air. There was this feeling of uneasiness when you walked in, you could feel the pain and love found and lost in this room. You could still feel the souls of those who had previously occupied it not yet finished with their work. That is perhaps why not a soul ventured into that room, they feared it or more correctly, they feared the supposed curse. What transpired in this room can only be described as bizarre and heartbreaking. Two agents worked the office nearly seven years together. Nearly seven years of dedicating their lives to this crusade; seven years some called wasted.

The female, one Agent Scully was agreed by all as a whole the one who suffered more. While working on the cases she had been abducted and nearly killed a staggering amount of times, not to mention a three month possibly actual alien abduction, her partner, Agent Mulder, thought where she returned half dead, or more correctly was returned.

She later developed cancer due to that abduction; found her abductors stole her ova to make a child, which she knew for about two days, until it died. She suffered two death scares from her partner, and countless almost dead scares. Then in the seventh year, Agent Mulder disappeared, she looked for him for a long time, all the while she was pregnant with his child. He returned in time for her to give birth to the child, but also in time for her to bury him, then he was revived (that was confusing to every agent in the building). He vanished for a year in which there child was kidnapped almost killed many a time. Late in that year the child disappeared and no one knew why, but many speculated...

Agent Mulder returned on trial for murder and was sentenced to death, devastating his partner. Her and their friends broke him out and the not so happy couple ran away together and was never heard from again. Now he went through most of the same, but she also got the job of keeping him in one sane piece. Not to mention he never actually had to bury her, while being six months pregnant, so most agreed she suffered more. Most assume that they were both found and killed shortly after they left.

Now one couple doesn't make a curse, the couple that followed in their footsteps, Agent Reyes and Agent Doggett suffered too. Doggett came in to replace Mulder and after the baby was born Reyes replaced Scully. They had close calls with death and were made fugitives by their loyalty to the X-Files and also to Mulder and Scully; they too went on the run only six months after Mulder and Scully. Most assumed they too were dead. Crane had never seen pictures of anybody, but hoped maybe to find old newspaper articles in the decrepit old office.

She had some fascination with the so-called curse and the tragedy that befell the offices occupants.

Crane was only mildly surprised to see the man in the office, this must be my cleaning buddy, she figured. Than took in his appearance, tall, very good looking, dark hair, amazing blue eyes, but pale skin which was contrasted nicely with his brown hair. He was definitely very attractive and she couldn't believe she had gotten so lucky.

Agent William Van De Kamp looked up from the paper he was reading and gazed at the woman in front of him, the surprisingly gorgeous woman. He had heard about Laralie Crane, and not good things, he heard she was an ice queen and a weirdo, into crazy stuff, but he himself should talk, he had a fascination for the unknown. The woman before him had black hair, was fairly tall for a woman and had bright blue eyes, and she had a smile he felt he recognized for some reason, but couldn't place it.

"Hi, I'm Agent Crane, you must be Agent Van De Kamp."

"That's me, just call me Will. What got you stuck here?"

"I requested it, when I heard they were going to clean it out I wanted in, what about you? By the way you can call me Lara."

"Don't know, they just sent me down here. I guess cause I didn't really have any cases at the moment."

"Find anything interesting yet?"

"Old case reports, do you know the story of this place?"

"Yep, isn't it interesting and so mysterious."

"I find it a bit depressing but yeah I guess it is kinda interesting. At least the cases were cool, they were definitely never bored."

Both agents continued talking and cleaning for nearly a week when they both came to a mutual decision.

Maybe is was the picture they found that inspired them, maybe it was just the almost disturbing fact that the presence that scared off other people made them both feel at home. They both stood in their office-to-be and gazed for what seemed the millionth time at the picture in Will's hands. They had found toward the end of the cleaning and immediately knew who the couple in it was.

Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, it was a candid shot they seemed to be discussing a case in one of their apartments. They sat on a brown leather couch, papers scattered about them. They were smiling and both Lara and Will knew as if by instinct that didn't happen much.

Without a spoken word they agreed to pick up the quest where both sets of agents left off.

"It will be dangerous," she told him, truth be told she was a bit scared but also thrilled with the idea."

"Reopening the X-Files is like opening Pandora's Box, that's what that crazy old lady in finance always says, so yeah dangerous, but oh so fun." She laughed at his words, she found she enjoyed his company and wanted more of it.

"I think that may be a bit extreme, but not too far off," she said with a smile. He loved seeing her smile, which was part of the reason he wanted to reopen to X Files, so he could spend so much time with her.

So it was decided, they brought their request to committee and it was argued, but finally agreed on, Pandora's box would be reopened.

Stepping out of her office she sighed, having been in her department for nearly thirty years and even though she was now heading it, she still felt slightly bored. As she headed down the hallway to take an elevator to a floor she hadn't be in years, she considered her boredom compared to her adventure years ago. She still had the craving to go on a case like she had nearly 25 years ago, a case which was so terrifying is caused her to abandon her idea of being in that department and returning to the dramatically more safe financial department. Agent Leyla Harrison was happy though sometimes she did crave that little excitement that she once experienced. But, she wouldn't have changed her decision, not back then and even if she could reverse it not now. Not after what happened to the two duos who had inhabited that office.

For their lives she was not built, for their fight she was not equipped.

As she walked down the hallway papers in her arms she almost couldn't believe that those files had reopened, couldn't believe after nearly 24 years someone had picked up the reigns and started the wagon rolling again. She also couldn't help the feeling that something was wrong, that they should have stayed closed. In her mind they were a Pandora's box, a curse to all who lived them. You go in you won't come out with out having to run for your life. She had tried to explain that to the AD in charge of them now, one Carmichaels. He just shrugged and told her she was a crazy old woman, which she resented; she wasn't old, not by a long shot.

Harrison entered the office and the feeling of uneasiness settled upon her, she wondered how the two new agents could handle. When someone came into this room they left soon after always saying they felt uncomfortable, but apparently not these two. She entered the room speaking more to the papers in her hands than the two people in front of her.

"Agents Van De Kamp and Crane, I'm here from the financial department with some papers you need to fill out as a start to reopening a department." She looked up at them finally seeing William first she gasped and back up.

"My god, it can't be. It just isn't possible." She then looked over to Lara and once a gain was in shock. She looked like them, but she couldn't be. She immediately rattled questions off at them.

"When were you born?"

"Were you adopted?"

"What are your parents names?"

"Do you have a picture?"

"Whoa slow down, what is this about?" Will was clearly confused.

"Just please answer the questions, and I'll tell you why after." Harrison looked imploringly at them.

"Okay, but you have to relax a little, your kinda of scaring me." Lara looked at her questioningly.

"I'll start, I was born May 20th 2001, and I was adopted. My parents are James and Bethany Van De Kamp and no, I have no picture on me. Now, your turn, why do you want to know all this?" William answered not sure what got this woman so worked up, but figuring answer some of her questions would probably calm her.

"Because you look just like them, God no, this can't be happening. Agent Crane when were you born?"

"October 13th 2005, why?" she was definitely confused, who did they look like?

"Do you have a picture of your parents?" Her heart was beating so fast as she strove to get answers this was too unlikely, this just couldn't be real, was she dreaming? Crane open her small black purse and dug out a matching wallet, opening it to the pictures and holding up a picture of an aged couple. Harrsion looked it over; it was them, aged two decades, but still them.

"It's true, they made it, my God. This is NOT HAPPENING. Agent Crane do your parents know you work for the FBI?"

"Yeah, they weren't happy about it, but they tried to be supportive." Why did the financial supervisor care so much about her parents?

"Do they know your working on the X-Files?" Crane bit her lower lip and shook her head, while gazing down at her shoes.

"The danger was why they were against my joining, I haven't been able to tell them I joined the most dangerous department, they would be very upset if they found out." She looked to William who read her thoughts through her eyes and knew it hurt that she couldn't share the passion she felt for their work with her parents. He tried his best to tell her he knew how she felt and he hadn't really told his parents much about what he did either. This exchange wasn't missed by Harrision, it looked so familiar to her, her mind reeled. THIS COULD NOT BE HAPPENING. THE ODDS OF THIS HAPPENING WERE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE. THIS WAS NOT HAPPEINING!!

"Agent Crane could you do me a small favor?" She began formulating a plan. She had to get these two away from each other and the X-Files FOREVER. History could not be allowed to repeat itself; someone had to stop it.

"I guess so, what do you want me to do?" Now she was totally at a loss for what was transpiring in this room and wondering if she should have agreed so readily.

"Call your parents ask them to meet Agent Harrison in room number 17 in the Discount Inn."

"Why? What's going on? I'm not doing anything until you stop freaking out and freaking me out."

"Have your parents told you anything about their past? William do you know anything about your birth parents?"

William always wanted to know about his birth parents, in fact that is part of the reason he joined the FBI, he was hoping he could find the agency they used and flash his credentials to get the file. He looked at Harrison sadness clear in his bright blue eyes. "No." was his only reply.

"My parents lived in Jersey and ran a bar. What does that have to do with anything?"

"They lied to you. If you call them and tell them where to meet me so we can talk, you'll be a lot less confused." Harrison was pleading in her head for this kid to understand; something has to be done. History cannot be aloud to repeat itself.

"Okay, fine, but if you turn out to be full of it I'll make sure they give you a new psych evaluation, which I'm betting would result in termination from the FBI."

"I'm not full of it, you'll see." William and Lara both shrugged and turned back to their work. Lara sorting old papers, Will filling out the finance forms.

Later in her apartment Lara stod in her kitchen making pasta and considering the days rather bizarre turn of events. What had shaken Harrison up so bad, it seemed every little thing her and Will did seemed to disturb her even worse. Putting the lid on the pot of pasta she moved near to her table cordless phone in hand and began dialing her parents number.

"Hello?" Her mother had picked up after a few rings.

"Hey mom, it's me."

"Oh hi Lara, how are you?'

"I'm good, I umm. started working in a new department at work."

"Oh, which department, have they finally put you in Violent crimes?"

"No actually, I'm working in a department called the X Files. It deals with cases of a peculiar nature." She stopped for a moment waiting for her mother's reply. Her mother did not reply, it seemed like hours until she risked speech again.

"Mom.Mom are you there?"

"Sorry honey, yes I'm here. Are you sure you want to be in the department?" She rarely heard her mother worried, but she knew when she heard her voice crack, the X-Files department wasn't entirely unfamiliar to her.

"Of course, it's everything I've always been interested in." She tried to stress how much this meant to her, mentally pleading her mom would understand. When she received no reply she spoke again.

"An Agent Leyla Harrison asked me to have you and dad meet her in room.what was it.oh 17 at..the Discount Inn here in D.C. She very curious about you and dad and about my partner's parents. Do you have any idea what she wants?" She heard nothing in reply, but her mother's breathing seemed to deepen and quicken. It seemed to be a day before she answered.

"What is your partner's name?"

"William." She didn't finish because it sounded as if her mother dropped the phone.

"Mom? Mom what happened? Are you okay?"

"We'll be there by tonight." And with that she heard the phone click. Agent Crane simply sat there to confused, to bewildered, feeling helpless and apprehensive. She needed to talk to Will, he could make her head stop spinning. As if God himself heard her and delivered the doorbell rang.

She ran to get it still shaken by her mother's odd responses. When she opened the door and saw Will standing there she should have been surprised, but she wasn't.

They had gotten so close in so short a time, no they weren't lovers. They were as close as friends could be, at times seeming to read each other's thoughts, and creeping out their fellow coworkers.

"Hi, I got home and I had a sudden desire to see you. Are you okay?"

Alexia Crane was facing her worst nightmare. She knew there was a chance of this happening when he entered the FBI, but it was just so unlikely she didn't worry that much. Alexia ran to her bedroom and packed her and her husbands suitcases. As a last minute thought she ran to their attic and through open a chest that had stayed locked for many years. Tearing through it she found what she was looking for. A journal and a leather bound scrapbook, both aged nearly two decades. For nearly ten minutes she sat there just staring at them, memories flooding her mind; unhappy memories mostly, an overload of tears and heartache. The door closing on the floor below ripped her out of her reverie. Sebastian was home, God, how was she going to tell him. She didn't have long to consider it as Sebastian began calling her name.

"In the attic, honey." She looked up momentarily to yell to him, then once gain focused her concentration upon the items in her hands.

"What are you doing up here-" He cut himself off when he saw what she was holding. He looked from her face to the books and back to her face before he spoke again. "What are you doing with those?"

"I just got a call from Lara." She paused briefly then continued, "She met Agent Harrison, who wants to see us.

She has a spot picked out to meet tonight."

"Leyla, the blond who knew everyone of M- their cases by heart?" He stopped before he said their names, remembering was too painful.

"The one and only. Lara is now working in the X-Files department." She paused gauging his reaction, which was tame than she expected. Only his eyes showed the fear he felt and only she could read them.

"I thought she wanted to work for violent crimes?" His voice cracked, and having known him for thirty years she knew that didn't often happen.

"She did, she and her new partner, someone she said Harrison had an interest in. Some named William." She stopped, wondering if he'd get the point. He seemed to his jaw dropped and in replace of the fear his eyes registered disbelief.

"That is way to improbable, the odds are.it can't.

Harrison wants to see us? We should pack." He looked to the books once again, the confusion long gone.

"Already packed, except for these. If we leave now we could probably get there by ten." He nodded and they grabbed their suitcases and ran out the door, heading for the nearest airport. The flight was uneventful and quiet, Alexia and Sebastian were lost in their own thoughts, thinking of what was to come. The plane touched down and they slipped out of the airport into an unoccupied cab, changing taxis as they made their way there. Sebastian knocked on the door to room 17, his other hand grasping his wife's. They clung to each other for emotional support and had for a long time. The door opened to reveal a familiar face aged two and a half decades.

"Agent Dogget, Agent Reyes, come in."

He must have noticed how disorientated she looked, because the concern was evident on his face.

"I just talked to my mother. I told her about Harrison."

She stopped there, trying to straighten out her thoughts.

"Did she have any idea what is going on."

"I think so. She seemed so upset and she dropped the phone when I told her your name." Now it was his turn to look bewildered. What the hell did everybody, but the two of them seem to know. And why for that matter was it so disturbing to everyone? He heard a noise and looked over her shoulder, on the stove the long forgotten pasta was bubbling over.

"Umm, Lara your pot is boiling over."

"Shit! I forgot about dinner! Ouch! Goddamn it!" She cursed as the scalding water splashed her when she went to pour the pasta in the colander. Will ran over to help her, taking the empty pot from her hands and resting it on an unused burner on the stove.

He looked back over to the sink to see her running her left hand under cold water.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, just moving too fast to be careful. Do you want some Ravioli Marinara? I think the ravioli are still salvageable." She picked one up and popped it in his mouth; he struggled to chew the large unexpected pasta all at once.

"Still good?" He simply nodded try to swallow it all down and she laughed.

"Very good, and very large, are ravioli usually smaller?"

"T.V. dinners, yes, real ravioli come in more than one size, these are the larger size."

"I could tell." She laughed again and he joined in. After a minute she shooed him away to the table so she could check the now boiling sauce. Will had grabbed forks and napkins on his way out of the kitchen and now set about placing them on the table. Once this was done he returned to the kitchen for the finishing touch. He set the glasses down and began pouring a dark merlot into each.

It suddenly occurred to him that to any outsider this would look like a date. Was this a date? He hadn't plan on it being; he had spoke the truth he had a sudden need to see her. He couldn't explain it, and he didn't wan to try. This wasn't a date though, they were just friends.

All thoughts of this stopped when the sweet smell of tomatoes, garlic and spices filled his nose. Lara came in holding two plates, he watched eagerly as she set them down.

"So you said you had the sudden desire to see me, any reason behind that desire or no?" She was curious how he popped up at such a perfect time.

"Honestly, no I just needed to see you, don't ask me why, because I don't know."

"Okay, I won't ask." They ate in silence both thinking of the events of the day and what was to come. After they finished eating they cleaned up and settled down in front of the TV until Lara's parents arrived.

"Whom do we look just like?" he asked suddenly, worry written into his face.

"Why would my parents lie to me?" She fired back a question of her own.

"Maybe Harrison is really crazy."

"But my mother seemed to understand what was going on."

"Your right. Damn it, I wish this were more simple." He was clearly irritated and confused and didn't care for the feeling at all. They continued discussing this among other topics for a few more hours, until the phone rang.

Lara reached for it and attempted to stop laughing at Will's story of his mother trying to get him into the priesthood.

"Hello?"

"Laralie, how you doing sweetie?" Her fathers voice came through the earpiece surprising her. She assumed they would come to her apartment first.

"Dad, Hi. Are you and Mom in D.C.?"

"Yeah, we just spoke with Agent Harrison. We are in that hotel room."

"Dad, what the hell is going on?"

"Watch your mouth. Is Agent Van De Kamp with you?"

"Yeah, Will is here. Why?"

"We need you two to come to the hotel. Do you remember the room number?"

"17?" She was getting more confused by the second and Will could read it on her face.

"Good. Come here as soon as you can and make sure you aren't being followed." He seemed so serious it bothered her.

"Dad, why would we be followed? What is this all about?"

She could see Will's eyebrow go up at that, she loved when it did that.

"The Truth. Just trust me Laralie. You'll find out everything once you get here." When he said the Truth it sent shivers down her spine and she couldn't figure out why. This caused her to comply and soon she was explaining the conversation to Will.

"This is just so.so.so fantastical." Will if possible even more perturbed than he had all day.

"It's an X File." Lara looks and him and smiles as she speaks, he returns the smile, their eyes locking. The moment passes as they realize they should leave.

"Turn here," Lara states as she looks at the road sign "Where?"

"Um, yeah.. back there. You missed it." She attempts to look irritated, but with the look of defeat upon Will's face she can only smile.

"This place should not have been that hard to find. Why did she choose this part of town?" He ponders as he looks for a place to turn around.

"No idea, and if you had let me drive we would be there."

He just grimaces as they finally pull in to the Discount Inn parking lot. After putting the car in park Will proceeded to undo his seatbelt and exit circle around it to open the door for his partner.

"Such a gentleman," she teases him as she gets out approach the brick building. The hotel is actually a semicircle of rooms, a two-story semicircle, with the only doors visible in the middle section. They enter the building to begin their search for room number 17.

"I win, it's over there." He points to a room on the left side of the building, almost the whole way down the hall.

"The odd numbers are over here. Shall we." He attempts to head over when she stops him, turning he looks to see what the delay is.

"I don't know if I want to do this." Is all she says as she looks into his eyes begging him to understand. He takes her hand and gives in a little squeeze, and gazing into her eyes assures her he is just as nervous as she and he won't leave her side. She squeezes back conveying her thanks and finally reaching the door they knock. The blue wooden door swings inward revealing Lara's father, a face she has known her whole life, but now fills her with dread.

"Laralie, and you must be William." He hugs her and extends his hand to William, who shakes and attempts to smile, but barely succeeds as he can't shake that "meeting the parents" feeling. Slow down, did he really just think that? They aren't even dating, are they?

Laralie's mother approaches and repeats her father's actions. Both Alexia/Reyes and Sebastian/Doggett stand and gaze at William, similar thoughts running through their heads. The room they were in was simple, a large bed and a single window on the left side of the room, the curtains drawn. A few bags were at the foot of the bed and a smaller one was on top. Harrison was in the far corner between the bed and the window and Lara's parents moved toward the bed.

"He really does look just like them, doesn't he?" Reyes speaks first, breaking the silence that seemed to have envelope the room.

"Yes, but we still need to be sure." He reaches into a bag and pulls out two items. One is a piece of paper, the other a small box. Opening the box to reveal a spongy ink pad, he approaches William.

"Wait what are you doing?" Lara steps between her father and her partner.

"Before we tell him anything we need to take his fingerprints to confirm something." He stopped his approached and focused on his daughter, who now sported a look of utter disbelief. William looked at the older man's eyes, what he saw their surprised him and caused him to offer his hand to a man he barely knew. What he saw was hope and if he wasn't mistaken paternal caring.

He was so lost in this train of thought he didn't realize he was fingerprinted until he saw Mr. Crane move away.

Pulling another piece of paper from the bag, the Crane's seemed to be comparing them. Slowly they looked over to Harrison and nodded, then looked back to the two youngest occupants of the room. Lara noticed her mother had tears slowly forming rivers down her cheeks and it seemed her father was close doing the same. She was stunned, her father hardly ever cried, but what he said next astounded her even more.

"We haven't seen you since you were about nine moths old William." At that simple sentence both Lara and William looked as if they'd been struck by lightening and William actually backed up till he hit the wall.

"I think we have a story you both need to hear and I think you might want to sit." It was her mother who said that and she turned to see William slide down the wall and scoot over to her as she did the same. Harrison remained leaning in the corner and Doggett and Reyes sat on the bed.

"I'm really not sure where to begin, I assume you know most of the story of the previous occupants to your new office." He looked to them for conformation, and they both nodded. He also saw they had joined hands and seemed to be working off each other's strength.

"You probably know the reason for Agent Mulder's quest, the abduction of his sister, and you know Agent Scully was sent to debunk his work, which she didn't.

"You know about her abduction and cancer, but probably not that much. Scully was abducted by aliens and men working secretly inside the government, they made her barren and almost killed her. They left a chip in her neck which she had removed only to discover it's removal would cause her fatal cancer. Agent Mulder got another chip, I don't know how, but he did and they implanted into Scully and she was cured.

"Shortly after this Scully found out the men who made her barren created a half human, half alien child with her ova. She found a child named Emily, a two year old girl who died only after two days with Scully.

Mulder found out just before his own abduction that is sister died as a young teenager, and he was able to gain closure.

"Mulder informed Scully he had a canister of her ova, but that he asked a specialist and he said he wouldn't work. She got a second opinion that said it would and asked him to father her child. He agreed, they tried and were informed that the process failed. At this point they were lovers, but whether the child they later conceived was natural or thanks to doctors, we'll never know.

"Mulder was abducted and Scully discovered she was pregnant. She was assigned a new partner, Special Agent John Doggett, I was that agent."

He paused here to let all this information sink in, both kids had their eyes bugged out and he could tell by the looks on their faces which parts of the story they were familiar with.

"That can't be, you Sebastian Crane, retired cop from the town of Sleepsville, Arizona." Lara couldn't believe what her ears were hearing, this has got to be some bizarre nightmare, it couldn't be real. She looked to William and he looked surprisingly calm, bewildered, but calm nonetheless.

"I better finish the story. I worked with Dana Scully for awhile after that, until she took her maternity leave.

But, before that we found Mulder and buried him. At this point Scully meets Agent Monica Reyes, who later took her place on the X-Files. It was very difficult for Scully, she devastated, her baby would never meet its father.

"A few months later Assistant Director Skinner decided Mulder wasn't dead and we dug him up. We learned people wanted to kill Scully's unborn child, and they offered Skinner a deal, kill the child and Mulder lives and stays human. If not, he may live but he would become a super solider. Not wanting Scully to have to make that kind of decision, Skinner pulled Mulder off life support, which in the end was what he needed. Mulder remained human and alive and got to see the birth of his child.

"This child was delivered by a Reyes in the very literal middle of nowhere, to insure his safety.. Only a few days later Scully made Mulder leaving fearing he'd die if he didn't hide. The child, a boy, William survived a serious of attacks and by, what must have been at least the third Scully was a mess."

He stopped here seeing the look on William's face, this expression wasn't missed by Reyes, because she spoke next.

"William that thing we needed to fingerprint you to confirm was if you were that child. Needless to say you are and both your parents loved you very much. Though it was after this third attack your mother made the decision that you'd be safer away from her and Mulder.

"Scully gave you up to adoption anonymously; she didn't even want to know where you went to, because she knew they would try to find some way to extract that information out of her.

She was so heartbroken after what she did, she cried for a week. She didn't go to work, didn't talk to John or me, and barely spoke to her mother."

She paused when she saw the tears in wIlliam's eyes, the poor kid probably went through most of his life thinking his birth parents really didn't want him, and now he was learning it was exactly the opposite.

Reyes looked at her daughter who also seemed to have tears in her eyes. Laralie turned to William and held him in a tight hug. She couldn't help wonder how close their relationship was, but it made her smile, what would Mulder and Scully think? After a while Reyes spoke again.

"Only a few weeks after this she discovered Mulder was being held in a military prison, for murder. He couldn't have killed the person that he supposedly did kill though, they were a super solider and couldn't die.

The trial was fixed though and they sentenced Mulder to death. Most of us knew Scully wouldn't survive long if she lost Mulder too, it would have been too much after losing William, so we broke Mulder out of the prison.

"Mulder and Scully disappeared after that, as was the plan. John and I continued working on the X-Files as we had done through most of this last part, until we learned due to our loyalty to our work and Mulder and Scully we became targets.

"We packed up and also vanished. We became

Alexia and Sebastian Crane and had a beautiful little girl named Laralie." She stopped here, knowing there was more, but not really wanting to go on. William sat on the floor not speaking and not really looking anywhere, he attempting to soak up all this information.

"Do you know if she used to sing to me?" William only thoughts were made he could get answers to the strange dreams he's had since he was a boy.

"I think she probably did, why?" Reyes was curious, could this boy really have remembered anything.

"I've had these dreams forever with a woman singing Jeremiah was a Bullfrog."

"Actually she did sing that to you, I remember one time I heard her," Doggett spoke remembering the past.

"Do you know where I can find them?" Doggett and Reyes look at each other, they were hoping they wouldn't have to tell him, hoping in vain, but hoping nonetheless.

"A cemetery in Lafayette, New Jersey. They share a tombstone as Jordan and Deidre Aberline. I'm sorry,"

Doggett spoke the painful words and looked at the young man in front of him and tried to remember him as the baby he knew.

"When did they die?"

"Your father died in February of 2005, your mother died only a few months later in May." Doggett's thoughts repeated over and over in his head, please don't ask anymore kid, you don't want to know, please don't' ask anymore.

But he did, "How did they die?"

"You don't want to know William, please, leave it at that." Reyes had had the same thoughts as her husband and spoke before he did.

"I need to know, please tell me what they did to them." This surprise everyone in the room, the kid was smart, but looking at who his parents were they shouldn't be surprised.

"Alright, but you better have a strong stomach." He stopped willing the kid to say never mind, but it didn't come and so he simply continued.

"Your parents disappeared to a rural county in New Jersey, I think it was called Sussex. They both taught at a middle school in the small city of Lafayette, where they were buried. Monica and I didn't think we'd ever see them again, and now I almost wish we hadn't. We hadn't settled yet, we were stilling running trying to stay alive. We were passing through Trenton, hiding wherever we could when we saw it in the paper. The murder of a schoolteacher, he was shot three times in his home. They had a picture of him his hair was darker, and he must have had colored contacts in his eyes, but it was unmistakably Mulder.

"The article said his wife taught science at the same school, so we went to find her. Sure enough we got there and found Scully teaching a bunch of 7th graders. After she was done we went to her home where she told us, by some miracle she had gotten pregnant again." He stopped here cause at the word pregnant William's eyes lit up, it was obvious he wanted a sibling, but Doggett knew he wasn't going to get one, so he simply continued the story.

"She was due in August, and she was terrified and devastated. We made visits to her regularly and when she was five months along, and Monica who we discovered was also pregnant a month and a half after our reunion with Scully was three months along, she told us she had made a decision. The baby was to be a girl and she wanted to name her Kylee, Mulder had liked that name and after Kylee's birth Scully wanted us to take her baby and get as far away as possible. She was sure if they came to kill Mulder they would kill her also. She was so upset and very determined we agreed, though the last thing we wanted to do was take a third child away from her."

Doggett stopped here as he was near tears and needed to collect himself before he continued. William and Laralie were both crying now, as was Harrison and Reyes was attempting to resist, but it seemed failing.

"Two weeks after this was agreed upon we returned, but when we go there she didn't answer the door. So we went in and looked for her." He took a deep breath so he could continue.

"We found her on her bed covered in blood, so we called the police. We knew we were to late it was more than obvious she was dead. The coroner's report said they's raped her and sliced her open to pull out the baby. The baby was found on the floor by the bed,it would have be too young to save anyway." He had to stop and sniffle and wipe the tears out of his eyes. Harrison mouth was nearly touching the floor in shock, Reyes held his hand and cried softly, Laralie was crying and looking at William, who just stared at Doggett and didn't seem to notice the rivers flowing down his cheeks.

"She had put up a fight though, knowing your mother I would have been more surprised if she hadn't." Reyes tried to lighten the mood, but knew it was in vain.

Nobody spoke for a while, Lara and William sat hugging in the corner comforting each other everyone else sat reflecting in their thoughts.

"So, I don't have a sister then," William spoke startling everyone.

"No, you have two, but they are both in heaven."

Little Emily was not to be forgotten.

"William we brought a few things for you, they belonged to your parents, a scrapbook and your mother's journal." Reyes handed both items to him and he took them with shaking hands.

"You are probably both wondering why I was freaking out so bad this morning when I realized who you were."

Harrison spoke for the first time since William and Lara arrived. They both nodded in response.

"I don't want you to suffer as your parents did, and believe me you will. Just by who you are, they will perceive you both as a threat, and if you continue on the X-Files. Well, you'll be hunted down and killed, if not worse. Besides your parents found the truth, there is no quest left." She looked at them both hoping they'd understand.

"There is justice to find." William looked at her and she good see the anger radiating through him.

"You won't find justice with these people, it doesn't exist." Reyes also so the hate in the boy and knew what he was feeling.

"If I kill them it exists."

"William remember what your mother did to insure your safety, she didn't go through that heartbreak so you can die by them anyway." This almost seemed to get through to him, until he spoke again.

"They have to pay for what they did to her, they can't get away with it." Tears poured down his face, not just sadness, but of anger and hate. Lara sat watching her best friend, she had never seen him in this much pain and it broke her heart. Then she thought of the parents she knew, but seemed not to know at all. She couldn't believe her parents were the same people she read about in the X-Files, everything they had been through. She couldn't look at them the same way anymore, it was weird.

"If you want to see more of their things, I think Maggie Scully, your grandmother will have them." Reyes saw the glow in his eyes as he flipped through the scrapbook, he deserved to see who his parents were.

"Thank you, I'll do that. I think I'm going to go, I need some time to process this." He stood up and helped Lara up, bending down to pick up the books.

"Yeah I need some time too." Was all Lara said, before she hugged and kissed her parents goodbye. Will went to shake hands, but instead they hugged him also and as they looked into his eyes he could tell just how much they missed his parents, and maybe even him.

The car ride back to Lara's apartment was quiet, both were attempting to make sense of what they just heard. Will parked his car next to hers and she got out, going around to his door. He was staring off into the distance, completely zoned out, when she knock on the window he jumped and quickly rolled it down.

"Your not going to be alone tonight, I don't think either of us should be, and don't bother arguing because I still have my gun with me." He smiled at her and without argument exited the car. They went together up to her apartment and without ceremony flicked on a light and plopped on the couch. They were both too emotionally drained to think, so they simply turned the TV on and pretended the problems on Maple Street were their biggest concerns. After the Monster on Maple Street ended the host came back, assuring them that they were still "stuck in the Twilight Zone marathon" and soon enough another one came on about aliens who wanted to "serve" man.

As this played Lara spoke, "Should we continue working on the X-Files?" She picked her head up from it's spot on his chest and twisted slightly in his arms to see his face. Before answering her question hey both seemed to finally realize the position they were in, how did that happen? Neither seemed to care as they both simply looked at each other and shrugged.

"I don't know, I've been thinking and I don't know." She looked in his eyes as he spoke, he seemed so lost.

"Screw it, we'll think about it tomorrow." With that she turned back toward the TV. She seemed to know how much he just didn't want to think about anything right now, how well she could read him already. He looked down at her, up at he television and back down at her head as he brought her face back up to look at his. He looked at her compassion filled and kissed her, and she kissed back. Satisfied they both turned back to finish watching the ships take off with people who were to become food.

In their hotel room lying in each other's arms Doggett and Reyes reflected back on the past and considered what the present might bring.

"I wouldn't mind having him as a son-in-law."

Doggett looked at his wife and smiled.

"Slow down there, remember their just friends."

Reyes laughed at his eagerness.

"Yeah, their friends like Mulder and Scully were friends." She laughed as did he, yeah they were friends, just really, really close friends.

"I miss them," Reyes said suddenly serious.

"The kids? We just saw them?" He was a little confused now.

"No, Mulder and Scully." She sighed and they both reflected on their lost friends as he agreed.

"Yeah Hon, me too. Me too."
