Hi. Sorry if someone already has this title. I just got back from three weeks without a computer and am getting caught up with 2000+ e-mails from the fanfic list and the XFR list :) On with the story, bad tho it is.

"With all that I've done wrong
I must've done something right."

It was Hunter's seventh birthday party. Her mom, Special Agent Dana Scully, had rented a pony for the event. All her friends were there, some playing musical chairs, some playing "Pin the Eyes on the Grey", a game her dad, Special Agent Fox Mulder, had made up. Hunter had made the cake herself. Her Aunt Samantha had come down from Brick, New Jersey to spend some time with her favorite, and only, neice.

Hunter's mom had gotten some Baby's Breath and put it in Hunt's brown hair. Scully thought Hunter was an angel, like Mulder. "Mommy, can I ride on the pony?"

"Sure thing sweetie, just get your dad to walk beside it so you don't fall." Scully had always been overprotective of her daughter.

Hunter walked over to her dad, who was looking at the cake. "Walk beside the pony, daddy, it's my first ride. I know the cake looks funny daddy, but I should try." Mulder should have been enjoying the party, but he was giving himself an all expenses paid guilt trip for having to work late a lot. His thoughts turned into a great big angst fest. 'With all that I've done wrong, I must've done something right, to deserve a hug every morning, and butterfly kisses at night.' He came over to Hunter and she jumped up to hug her daddy, because for all of the entire seven years that she had known him, she knew something was wrong. Just then, as it started to seem like whoever was ruling their lives had gotten writer's block, a nuclear war broke out in DC.

"Everybody get inside!" Mulder shouted. "Let's go, let's go, let's go!" he cried as he watched his beloved wife get smothered by some falling rocks. "Hunter, get inside now, please? For Daddy?" He was shocked at the maturity that his daughter displayed.

"Dad, you're coming in too. It's the end of the world as we know it, I have to have someone who can show me how the new one works." They went inside, while Johnny and Suzie played in the fallout. They ran through the stuff as a lark. Now, they both glow in the dark.

Fortunately, they all got inside safely, except for poor Dana Scully.

Mulder was in catatonic shock for weeks afterwards. Hunter had to take care of herself *and* her father, but they both survived.

Nine Years Later:

Hunter's sixteenth birthday party had gone uneventful. She still deeply missed her mother. For her father, the pain was worse. She was looking like her mama a little more every day. Hunt was starting to wear makeup and perfume instead of ribbons and curls. She had gotten her pilot's license from Agent Nichols and was taking a test run in her birthday present from Agents Nichols and Carrigan - a B-2 plane! She was starting to spread her wings out in a great big world, which caused Mulder to relapse into angsty mode and guilt trip himself about all the things he couldn't change, instead of dwelling on the future, which he *could* impact. Mulder had put Hunter to bed when she was a lot younger, and Hunter had tried to encourage her dad with butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer, and on special occasions, Mulder would put little white flowers all up in her hair. "You know how much I love you daddy, but if you don't mind, I'm only gonna kiss you on the cheek this time." Mulder could only think of all the mistakes he had thought he had made while raising Hunter, with or without Scully, but that he must've done something right to deserve such a beautiful daughter. All the precious times he had had with her had flown by as fast as the years and the butterfly kisses had gone by: too quickly.

"Spread your wings and fly," he told his daughter.

Ten Years Later:

Mulder couldn't believe it. His baby daughter was getting married.

He didn't want to give her away. He stood in the bride room just staring at Hunter. "What're you thinking Daddy?" she asked him.

"I'm not sure. It just feels like I'm losing my baby girl."

She leaned over and gave him butterfly kisses, as Scully's ghost appeared with a tear running down her cheek. She started butting Baby's breath in Hunter's hair for good luck.

"Walk me down the aisle daddy, it's just about time. Does my wedding gown look pretty daddy?" She noticed Mulder starting to cry. "Daddy don't cry."

"With all that I've done wrong, I must've done something right to deserve her love every morning and butterfly kisses. I couldn't ask God for more, man this is what love is. I know I've got to let her go, but I'll always remember every hug in the morning and butterfly kisses," he said to Scully as she reached out her hand to Mulder.

"It's time," she told him, and Mulder followed her through the wall of the building as his corporeal figure slumped into a chair, lifeless.

"I'll always be with you," Hunter heard a voice saying as she watched her father's disembodied figure slowly disappear into oblivion.
