Summary: Did Mulder and Scully know each other before they were put together in the FBI?? We take a little peek into Mulder and Scully's childhood.

The little boy squinted in the bright sunlight and then rubbed his eyes. He sighed. It was such a hot day and he was really tired. He looked up at his parents- they didn't seem to sense the unberable heat like he did. They were talking easily to each other. He glanced down at the baby carriage and looked at his little sister in envy. She was sound asleep , in the shade, in nothing but a diaper.

Everyone was comfortable but him. He didn't even want to be here. He stepped away from his parents for a second and looked at the long line that was stretched out in front him. Who wants to go to the planatarium anyway?? He didn't even know what a planatarium was.

Sighing he stepped back into line and started evaluating people. The women in front of him kept on tugging at her shirt- which was was to small for her ample frame. He glanced down at the lady's shoes- you can always tell what kind of person someone is by the shoes they wear. If they wear boots, they like to be in charge and boss other people around. If they wear sandles, they like to be free and not adhere to anyone else's rules. The large lady was wearing old and worn out tennis shoes- she was tired and bored with life. He didn't blame her- anyone waiting in this line had to be desperate for entertainment.

Something then caught his eye. About four people up was a girl about his age. The sun was reflecting off her hair- which was a brilliant red. The girl turned around and stared right back at him. She had the bluest eyes he had ever seen in his whole life- which amounted to about five and a half years. The line started to move and suddenly he didn't want her to go.

He started to walk forward but his mom yanked him back and said something to the effect that he shouldn't cut in line. The red-haired girl kept glancing back over her shoulder- at the last moment before she disapeered, she gave him a smile that lit up her face. Then she was gone. But he never forgot the smile, those blue eyes, and the brilliant red-hair on the unbearbaly hot day at the planatarium.

Five Years Later

She hated soccer. She was never the athletic type- always the last picked in gym class and always the first to get out in four square. She gave her older brother an icy glare and hoped it would somehow affect him. He looked down at her and smirked. "You have to play. Dad is expecting you to. He doesn't get to us as often as he'd like. Besides, I want to see you get your butt kicked."

She was so angy she didn't even want to respond. She stomped over to where her coach and her teamates were waiting. She was told she was going in as goalie. She squeaked out a thanks and trotted over to the goal area. She tried to act like she got it all together. Fourth graders could be unmerciless if they smell fear. She wiped her palms on her shorts and tried to comb her red windblown hair with her fingers.

As the referee blew his whistle, she crossed her fingers and prayed that it'd all be over soon. She was actually doing decent. She had stopped two goals but had gained an enemy on the other team. They were charging down the field again with her nemsis in the lead. The ball suddenly came flying towards the left.

She lunged and hit something. But not the ball- her head had somehow connected with the goal post. She felt pain radiated from the point of contact all the way down to her feet. Slowly, she shut her eyes.

When she awoke, they were carrying her off the field. Her head was hurting so bad but she didn't cry. She didn't want to cry. The coach set her down and asked her all sorts of stupid questions. She said she was fine and that she just wanted to be alone. After about ten minutes, she was forgotton.

She hobbled over to a nearby swing set and slowly rocked back and forth on the swing. She heard a noise and glanced around. A boy about her age was playing basketball. He was actually pretty good. He had dusty brown hair and when he turned, she saw his eyes were brown to.

In midstride, he stopped and glanced in her direction. She saw a flash of recognition cross his face and wondered why. He opened his mouth as if to say something but then shook his head, as if reprimending himself. The someone was called him and he tore his gaze from hers. He started to walk away reluctantly, glancing back now and then. For another second he hesistated, then smiled and shy sort of smile.

Did she know him?? He seemed really familiar...Wait, how many brown haired and eyed boys do you know? Countless. So there. But still, something nagged at her and she knew she had seen those brown eyes before. She glanced back to where he had been but he was gone. But she always would remember how his eyes had locked hers and the shy smile of recognition he had given her.

Many, Many Years Later....

"...go down the stairs, turn right and it's the second door on the left."

"Thank you sir," Agent Dana Scully said as the directions to Agent Fox Mulder's office was given to her. And by the sound of the directions, which seemed to lead to the basement, she wondered what kind of agent was he.

She found the door and knocked on it lightly.

"Nobody in here except for the FBI's most wanted," a voice quipped from inside. Scully took that as an invitation to step in. She walked toward the tall man sitting at a desk looking at some slides. There was something familiar going on.

He turned around... and those large blue eyes locked onto those large brown ones. And each of the agents knew that their lives would never be the same.
